Today, we took another step forward and released Opera Developer 25. Under the hood, Opera now supports web notifications. This is something you spotted in our changelogs before. We’ve also improved our Mac installation by moving to the network installer that Windows users have enjoyed for the past few releases.

Web notifications

web_nitification

From now on, Opera officially supports web notifications. These are a special kind of pop-up triggered by a site. Notifications alert the user outside of the context of the browser. Usually, the operating system UI is used to display the alert. This is very convenient way for web page and web app makers to inform their users about events, such as the delivery of email or a comment posted on a blog.

You can check it out if you use the Gmail web client. Enable Desktop Notifications in your Gmail settings and have fun!

web_notification_gmail

New Mac installer

This release also includes a brand new network installer for Mac. The smaller-sized downloader fetches the latest version of Opera when you’re connected to the web. It installs and runs our browser automatically. The new installer is less prone to errors and should manage to download a package when you’re on poor-quality networks.
mac_netinstaller
Network installation for Windows has been available for some time and now we’ve brought it to Mac. New users can download the network installer once and, from then on, it will always install the latest Opera from our servers. Of course, the regular auto update still works.

There can be situations where you may need the full, offline package installer. We haven’t gotten rid of previous solution, just added the smaller option. For anyone who’s worried, you will still be able to download the full size installer.

The new, improved changelog

You asked for more detail information about bugfixing and we’ve improved the changelog to help out. But, bear in mind that the log is created automatically, issues are filed by people and mistakes can happen. Now, every bug is marked with a *.

DNA-20341 [Windows] Rename Opera Next to Opera beta – WP1
    Why just Windows? 😀

    • naranjaa

nice question xD, but BETA sounds better 🙂

    • https://christoph142.wordpress.com/ Christoph142

A lot of people take “Opera Next” as the name for Blink-based Opera in general to distinguish it from legacy versions.
Thus, people tend to install beta version when they wanted a stable one.

    • Petter Nilsen

It’s not just for Windows, but the implementation is different on Mac and Windows/Linux so it’s split in different bugs.

      • SQL

I see, didn’t see those for other OS’s nearby.

    • ma_t14

      “Also what’s this? 🙂
      DNA-22905 [Windows] Create bookmarks menu”

If you click on the opera button you should now see a “Bookmarks” menu item but you need to enable bookmarks first under opera:flags.

      • escruting

Nice, this button/menu is what i’ve been looking for, now it just needs to be a button next to the speed dial button on the interface, then my wet dreams would become true.

        • Herr Pietrus

I think it should be on the main bar, next to the omnibox 🙂 It’s my wet dream… 😛

  • L33t4opera

Hi Przemek, congrats on the first Opera Developer 25 release!

  • rafaeljvieira

Mac: Any idea why Opera Developer is asking for access to “Opera Safe Storage” on Keychain? If I refuse, the pop-up will prompt again and again until I quit the browser.

    • rrzepecki

We have this logged, hopefully it will be fixed soon.

      • rafaeljvieira

        Thanks!

  • taneli

https://i.imgur.com/TLLyGIV.jpg this menu item seems a bit bigger than it should be.

So… what’s the weather like in Oslo, anyway? :/

      nobody cares anymore, it seems…

couple of years ago, there was a Facebook page/group called “Communist Sex Club”.
They were creating some meme graphics about weather (there were couple of really good ones).
Their motto on every art work was:
        “Everybody talks about the weather.
        F*** the weather.”

      • myxelloss

we love weather reports, please keep us informed 🙂

why the font looks so ugly? no option to smoothing?

    http://i.imgur.com/vRv2QHc.png

    • Arjan van Leeuwen

This is DNA-24315, I’m not sure what the conditions are to trigger it but it seems to depend on font configuration (hinting perhaps). A fix will come later.

      • naranjaa

        thanks Arjan

@arjanvanleeuwen:disqus: Thanks for the hint (no pun intended – well maybe 🙂 )

@naranjaa:disqus: Forcing hinting in KDE’s System Settings fixed the ugly fonts for me, you might want to try that.

Opera 25 (and also the latest Opera 24) doesn’t load any web page and seems that it hangs!!!

    http://i.imgur.com/MJbXG8c.png

    Win 8.1 x64.

    Anyone has the same problem?

    • Cjcr

Weird. If I install it as USB in the Desktop it works. Seems that something related with profile or something else is causing the normal installation doesn’t work.

      • Marcin Mitek

It is possible. Backup your profile, then delete it and try to install for all users/single user. It might happen if you downgraded Dev at some point. Or you mixed the profiles from Stable/Next/Dev.

        • Cjcr

That doesn’t fix the problem. I deleted everything from Opera Developer folder in AppData, then I install Opera 25 for all users. Same problem.

          • Marcin Mitek

Local and Roaming folders for Opera Developer?

          • Cjcr

Yes both. I did it again to stay sure. Any other idea?

            http://i.imgur.com/h0CFRSV.jpg

        • Cjcr

I can’t belive. That now happens even with USB installation :O

    • João Gonçalves

I also suffer from this problem.
Everytime I click the new tab button, it loads a blank page for a few seconds and only then displays the correct content.

      • Cjcr

The problem I have here is more hard. I can’t load any page (incl. start page)

        • João Gonçalves

I see. That’s hard. Try to clean your profile.

          • Cjcr

I did. Still the same problem.

          • João Gonçalves

Clean everything in Program Files and User folder.
            All “Local” and “Roaming”.

          • Cjcr

I already did. The only way to make Opera 25 to work in Win8.1 is install it as USB mode. It also works in a Virtualbox machine with WindowsXP.

          • Cjcr

The fact is that now I installed Opera 24 Next and I have the same problem, so, the problem comes from the latest Opera 24 until now.

          • João Gonçalves

So it seems you have your Opera installation profile or folder really messed up.
Or you are not cleaning completely everything that is related to Opera and that is causing this problem to you.

          • Cjcr

Nop. Everything is clean. In fact, win8 is installed few weeks ago.

bookmarks bar favicons without name are bugged/duplicated
    http://i.imgur.com/roAnRRV.jpg

…and since Stash is gone in this version, if someone wants to transfer it into O25, In any previous version,
click speed dial button on stash item to make it …well, speed dial…group it into folder and then transfer favorites.db into this build

I think this is the easiest way to get stash pages transfered

    • https://christoph142.wordpress.com/ Christoph142

Actually, Stash items automatically become part of your “Unsorted bookmarks” without you doing anything 😉

      • Vux777

        thanx…didn’t notice that

    • L33t4opera

Hi Vux777, in case, that you would like to bring back the Stash feature, you need to disable the “opera://flags/#bookmarks” flag, and relaunch the Opera. If I’m not mistaken, it seems that the Stash, and the BM, going to be alternate solutions 😉

      • Vux777

        thanx

      • Herr Pietrus

        Interesting idea 🙂

    • Kurt Zon

editing the entries without a name and adding a space seems to solve this bug…….

  • Arjan van Leeuwen

This snapshot also supports HTML5 H264 and mp3 playback on Linux. To use it, you need to have the ffmpeg 2.1 libraries installed on your system, compiled with h264 / mp3 support.

Quick guide to compiling it from source, in a way which will not interfere with previously installed versions of libav (source code: http://ffmpeg.org/releases/ffmpeg-2.3.1.tar.bz2):

    $ ./configure –enable-shared –build-suffix=-ffmpeg
    $ make
    $ sudo make install
    $ sudo ldconfig

    • L33t4opera

Hi Arjan, thank you! Great job 😉

    • Igor Tarasov

Any binaries available for Ubuntu 14.04?

      • Arjan van Leeuwen

Not that I know of, Ubuntu includes libav instead of ffmpeg by default and official packages don’t seem available. https://launchpad.net/~jon-severinsson/+archive/ubuntu/ffmpeg doesn’t give you a new enough version.

        • L33t4opera

In my case, I managed to get it to work, as follows:
          1. Install the “chromium-codecs-ffmpeg-extra” package,
          2. cd /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/opera-developer,
          3. mv libffmpegsumo.so libffmpegsumo.so.org,
          4. ln -s /usr/lib/chromium-browser/libffmpegsumo.so.
After that, the H.264/MP4 test video on this site, plays without a problem, but the Youtube html5 test page, shows support for the “MSE & H.264” (in green), but not for the “H.264” (in red) 😉 BTW: When you use the default (shipped by the Opera) “libffmpegsumo.so” file, the video doesn’t work at all.

        • http://www.facebook.com/hector.maciasayala Hector Macias Ayala

But you’re commited to get it to work with libav, aren’t you?

    • SQL

Is there going to be future work in enabling MSE & H264 playback? 🙂
Chromium seems to support MSE so it’s all about hacking it up to your H264 implementations 🙂 https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=239506

    • xbqo

      Great job.

I think it was not possible to build chromium with system ffmpeg. Did you push the change upstream?

    • xbqo

When are you going to update the browser.js? I have to disable flash plugin to play html5 video on youtube.

I like the new speed dial, however it would be nice to see folders open on the same height for easy acces.
Maybe make it depend on the number of dials within the folder?

    • NoName

Less mouse movement. I like the idea.

Thanks for remove Stash. 😉 This was one of things I liked. 😉

Why you have disable the option “Use system title bar and borders” on Linux? I have a small screen and system borders are taking too much space. In an earlier version there was this option and i could desable system borders. Please fit it!!!

    • Arjan van Leeuwen

  • rafaeljvieira

Using the new bookmarks manager and experimental start page. Clicking the Heart button automatically ads a website to bookmarks; however, I believe that clicking it again should remove the website from bookmarks, without the need of opening the new bookmarks manager. Furthermore, I would like to see an option to add a page to Speed Dial using the Heart button (right click, for example).

    • Herr Pietrus

YES YES YES. I totally agree, especially with that part about removing site from bookmarks.:)
BTW – heart should indicate whether an website is already among our bookmarks or not.

    • Yves

Screen and how to activate new bookmarks manager ?!

      • rafaeljvieira

Go to opera://flags/#bookmarks and enable this flag. If you also wish to enable the new Start Page go to opera://flags/#experimental-start-page and enable this flag as well.

  • omuculopata

Web notifications don’t work on Windows 8.1 64 bit. Permission request is ok, but all notifications fail. This is probably an upstream bug, since the same happens in Chrome Dev 64-bit.

It would be great if changing the permissions were easier, without going into settings (e.g. in case of accidental click on the wrong button).

    • x a

      Cannot confirm. Same OS.

    • IllusionMH
      • omuculopata

I tested on the same pages. Still does not work. The onerror event is triggered:

        > This is the console where you can expect some output when stuff happens.
        > Permission to display: granted
        > Notification #1 queued for display
        > Notification #1 errored
        > A notification will be triggered in 5 seconds. Try minimising the browser now.
        > Notification #2 queued for display
        > Notification #2 errored

        • ahoj1234

          opera://flags/#desktop-notifications

make sure that this is enabled (default). And that you are running this build or/and properly installed W8.1 x64 (I am using it too and web-notification is working like a charm).

          • omuculopata

The flag is set to Default (enabled). When you disable it Notification.permission should always yield “denied”, but it my case it is “granted”.

          • IllusionMH

Try to set in settings “Ask me when a site wants to show desktop notifications (recommended)” and also clean all exceptions.

May be bug with “Allow all sites to show desktop notifications” ?

        • Mikolaj Boc

Hi, could you please go into ‘Notifications Settings’ in Start Menu and check whether Opera is on the list of apps that are allowed (and capable) of displaying notifications?

          • omuculopata

The whole page is read-only: “Some settings are managed by your system administrator”, which is weird (I know it wasn’t like that a few months ago).

Opera is in the list of apps and is set to “On”. However, “Show app notifications” is set to “Off”. This is again weird since I know I received notifications from the Mail application a few days ago.

I will investigate more 🙂 But still, Chrome should display the notifications from MDN and other websites I allowed, since it has its own notification system…

        • omuculopata

Ok, so it wasn’t Opera’s fault, but it had something to do with Windows (something that I would never expect): I recently set Enable Enhanced Protected Mode in the Advanced tab in Internet Options and notifications stopped working for all apps. I don’t see the connection between an Internet Explorer setting and the Windows 8 notifications, but I’m almost sure this was the problem. After I reset all IE settings to their defaults everything worked.

Regarding Chrome: MDN uses an iframe to load the code. Notifications worked if I loaded the url in a separate tab, but didn’t in the iframe. Seems like it’s working in the latest Dev build (by the looks of the SVN log, they did a lot of work on Web Notifications API).

          • Marcin Mitek

Chrome doesn’t use the Windows 8 toast notifications, we do. That’s the connection between Opera and general Windows 8 internet settings.

          • omuculopata

It was a coincidence that it didn’t work on Chrome Dev in a particular case, so that’s why I initially thought it was from upstream.
About why Windows 8 notifications didn’t work: internet settings and notifications are two completely different things. You do not expect that changing one would mess up the other.

      • ahoj1234

Can you confirm that it seems alike with the screen from Opera devs? Notifications are working here but without “dev release” logo and without the exclamation mark (not a big deal but still).
        thanks

  • Inquisitor

-Extensions don’t show on the speed dial.
-How do I add a bookmark to a specific bookmarks (sub)folder?

Please make the sidebar of the new Start Page visible on all pages; Or even better: let it hide automatically and let it open when you move the cursor against the left edge of the screen.

    • MadEddy

      Yeah, I’d like panels too.

      • rufu2

I upvote this and reply with +1, just to make it more obvious… Please bring panels back!

    • http://www.opera.com/ Grzegorz Miazga

Extensions are disabled by design on new Start Page.

      • Vux777

Couple of latest Chrome versions supports injecting extension script into new tab page.
        Any chance Opera will?

      • Sidney Guioy

Is it planed to re-enable them ? ( even if they need to update to a new speed dial API )
I only use Gmail for SpeedDial, and facebook for speeddial and i love to see live info like that, so i hope they wil come back, new speeddial looks wonderfull !

        • http://www.opera.com/ Grzegorz Miazga

          Currently no plans for that.

          • ma_t14

Hm, then the new speed dial is unusable for me :/

          • http://www.lalaurette.com.ar/ Sebastián Lalaurette

That kills what made the Speed Dial truly unique. It’s sad.

          • Manuel

Really? Than no thanks for this, I like my speed dial extensions and want to keep them.

        • Guilimote

Totally agree, speed dial extensions are really useful!

Small but efficient interactivity (like Gmail unread) on the speed dials icons was really a very clever way to enhance the speed dial display.

    • Inquisitor

Speaking about ‘disappearing’ toolbars: Suggestion to Odevs: I think it would be nice (for the sake of vertical ‘screen real estate’) if we could have the bookmark bar disappear behind the top edge of the screen automatically. If you want to click on a bookmark, just move the cursor against the top edge of the screen, and the bookmark bar appears, click on the desired folder/link to go the desired page. Move your cursor away from the bar, and the bar disappears.
      (Oh, Inquisitor! Stop dreaming)

      • http://www.lalaurette.com.ar/ Sebastián Lalaurette

Not all of us have the operating system toolbar at the bottom of the screen. What you ask for would be very inconvenient for those of us who don’t have the window at the top edge.

    New flags:

    Chrome’s shutdown procedure
    Mac, Windows, Linux
When shutting down the browser, follow Chrome’s shutdown procedure.
    #chrome_shutdown_PROCEDURE

    • ma_t14

How is this procedure any different from the current one? Devs?

      • http://www.facebook.com/hector.maciasayala Hector Macias Ayala

Just about before I enable it, I had the same question, and closed the tab.

        • ma_t14

What do you mean? The only thing I noticed is that having this flag enabled does not respect the setting “continue where I left off” but surely this is not the “core” of the feature..

          • http://www.facebook.com/hector.maciasayala Hector Macias Ayala

I’m just saying I didn’t really care much about the difference between Opera’s shutdown process and Chrome’s own, at the end I’m using Opera, not Chrome.

  • Dave-H

Everything’s the right size again, thank you!
    🙂

    • Inquisitor

      Yep. No change, unfortunately.

  • MadEddy

Thanks A LOT for bringing back bookmarks.

I have a suggestion: the possibility of disabling “discovery” for those not using it.

    • Rodders

I suspect that will not happen as Discovery looks to me like a cash generating feature for Opera. That is fair enough but I suggest the Discovery icon on the new start page is placed at the bottom, not inbetween Speed Dial and Bookmarks.

      • NoName

They previously said that it did not generate any cash.

        • Rodders

There must be some reason for Opera’s devotion to this feature… 🙂

          • NoName

I guess it could be a cash generator in the future, if it gets enough usage.

          • Nick Schaedel

I’m guessing at some point they could integrate RSS, at which point it would be a rather sexy feature.

    • rafaeljvieira

You can go to opera:settings and untick the option to preload Discover contents. That way, if you don’t open Discover, its contents will not be loaded in the background.

      • Rodders

I think the point is that some people would like the option to make Discovery disappear altogether, which I suspect will not happen.

        • rafaeljvieira

Yes, but since that is unlikely to happen, unticking the option to preload Discover contents is probably the best option atm.

    • A. R.

Rather kick out discovery than stash! But why not make a 4th “page/tab” for bookmarks. Discovery is useless without RSS.

  • VladdSerbia

    Impressive changelog! Thanks.

  • DamonLinuxPoland

Devs, thanks for progress in Linux build and add h.264 support but I have few requests for changes.
    #1:
    http://imgur.com/l3nCvTc

Look at window frame… I know that as long as you do your browser to Unity / gnome3, but it looks bad in other environments.

While the default theme of Ubuntu works well on ubuntu systems are already on the other not so much.

In addition, since several versions ago’ve added border system which already totally bite his the theme of ubuntu which is in the browser.

My advice, or remove this the system of borders and do as in the first version of the opera for linux 24, so that was the same theme of ubuntu with no borders. Because once it looks terrible, and the two take up additional space on the screen.

Or remove the ubuntu interface and do the native look like once the opera 12 on Linux.

Both options will be better than the present – at least for me.

#2: As you can see in Opera 24, detected a new version of 25th Maybe you can add automatic update? As in Firefox or something similar? I think it would be a good idea. Given the high that you provide no packages for various distributions, but only for Ubuntu.

Install each new version of the unsupported Linux systems is difficult. Hence my request, add automatic update. Because man will spend time in, and then will be automatically, and now it must still manually update. Monstrosity.

My suggestion automatic updates in Opera Linux.

#3: You can try to create in addition to packages “deb” Also, although a package “rpm” to others had easier job in the installation. Giving in Opera 12, you gave both deb and rpm. Maybe now is the time for it?

Or otherwise. Do not bother with packaging deb or rpm, but do it as official packages of firefox. Already rebuilt universal binaries and packaged in a bz2 archive – unpack, you click and movements – without installation and packaging of the parcel. Do not simpler? And each of Linux systems would benefit.

#4 Is there any chance that the AURA in linux dodalibyście abandoned by google support NPAPI plugins? Because I also notice in Windows abandonment is yet to come for some time. And they can korzystaż with plugins such as Java. Until Google abandons support. Before that happens, probably oracle do a new plug.

But what about Linux? The AURA has removed support for Linux NPAPI already now. So there is no chance of plug-ins such as Java – so we are on the ice …

If possible, could you add support for NPAPI plugins AURA.

    • Arjan van Leeuwen

#1. Further updates will come in this area, be patient 🙂
#2. The distributions we officially support get automatic updates via their native systems. If we decide to support more distributions, we’ll look into how Opera will need to get updated there.
      #3. See #2.
#4. No. It’s not simply a question of ‘putting it back’, which sounds easy: NPAPI support was never created for Linux/Aura, so implementing it would require a substantial effort from Opera both for development and maintenance. Keep in mind that plugins and NPAPI specifically are traditionally the most hairy part of any browser, and I can vouch for that personally as one of the developers who worked on NPAPI support for Linux in Opera Presto. We don’t have the resources to create that with the quality level we would like to have, and investing so much in a technology that is quite likely to disappear (and which our upstream has already abandoned) simply doesn’t make sense.

      • DamonLinuxPoland

        Thanks 🙂

  • AS

    Suggestion:

I ask for implementing the option of the button for expand the field of the address in the browser it mean the function: Show Dropdown Button In Addressfield

Developers look, two important browsers IE and Mozilla has this function, and why you can’t implementing this function? As a basic function or function to turn on in settings. Think about it.

  • Alex

Thank you for the new Developer! I’m currently testing it and so far everything works great, except there’s a huge problem (at least for me) and I’m not sure if I’m the only one having it.

I can’t see any kanji (Japanese characters, 漢字). <= I typed, but I only see blank spaces. It happens in search boxes, comment boxes, on Twitter, on e-mail, search results… They don't appear in Speed Dial titles either. I'll post some screenshots if necessary.

I'm not sure if there's the same problem with other languages as well.

I wonder if it's related to the font issue the others have reported…

    • Marcin Mitek

Doge displays correctly here (Win 7/8.1), much kanji, so cute.

      • Alex

I still can’t see kanji (only some parts are showing). I used wikipedia to test Chinese and Korean pages and they don’t show up either. It’s a shame I can’t test the bookmark manager yet, since I mostly work with Japanese sites, but I will go back to 24 and wait for the next Dev version…

        Thank you for checking!

    • Toshiyuki Saito

Hi, Alex. It WFM with clean Profile, stand alone 25.0.1583.1 on Win7(Japanese)/32 and the one updated from 24Dev with dirty Profile.
How’s with other browsers and other Opera on your system? Have you tried clean Profile without any extensions?

      • Alex

Hi, thank you for your answer, mister Saito.
I only use Opera Developer and I usually keep it up to date, so I don’t know if it works ok on other browsers or versions.
At your suggestion, I tried a clean profile and the problem is still there. Only Latin letters, numbers and some of the kanji appear, anything else is blank. Here is a screenshot of Google Search Results (Opera Developer 25 – clean profile, Windows 7 32bit):

        • Toshiyuki Saito

Now we found it is a Chromium issue, so are tracking it over there – thanks for your reports.

  • Rodders

A reminder that the garbage text is still appearing for me above the tab previews (Vista 32). Other than that I like the way things are starting to take shape with this browser.

    • Marcin Mitek

We have Vista with SP1 and SP2 and they both display the title properly. I don’t know why it doesn’t work for you, I am out of ideas. It falls back to other fonts that are common for Windows operating systems (Tahoma for example).

      • Rodders

What font is used here? If it is a regular system font I should have it. Also a reminder that this is not only happening to me.

        • Marcin Mitek

OK, last shot, what is your OS language?

          • Rodders

            English (UK)

          • Marcin Mitek

And to answer your question, we use Segoe UI Light, if it’s not installed in the system we fall back to Tahoma (original bug report came from Windows XP where fonts from Segoe family are unavailable).

I guess it is broken even for clean USB installations, right?

          • Rodders

I’ve installed Segoe UI Light and all is good now. Thanks for your time.

          • Marcin Mitek

No problem. But I still don’t know why it was broken. It makes me sad.

          • Rodders

Yes I had Tahoma installed already so that presumably should have been the back-up, and yet in my case it was not.

  • thebluefootednewt

Finally! Now I could move to Opera.
Now I’m waiting for lightweight themes, that skinning toolbars also, sync, and previous closed pages button.

  • escruting

Bookmark manager: It would be nice to have an option to show a thumbnail of the page instead of the default icon showing just the name of the page with big size font.

    • http://alexey.shpakovsky.ru alex_shpak

you can select an image after visiting the page and clicking heart icon in the address bar

      • escruting

        Oh nice, didnt notice, thanks.

The whole heart button is a bit confusing right now. You press the heart button and it already saved the page to unsorted bookmarks, and then you select the folder and it changes it too, without an accept or apply button. This confused me and i think would confuse others too…

      • rufu2

        That’s cool! Thanks.
But I agree with escruting there, too. The heart menu needs a bit of tweaking still: I added a few duplicates before I noticed that to change the picture you do not have to confirm anything.

  • xbqo

Opera 25 is crashing every 5 minutes on my computer…

How can I help debugging this?

    • Vux777

cleaning history (or complete profile) is usually first advice in those situations

      • http://www.facebook.com/hector.maciasayala Hector Macias Ayala

How can I test a browser in different conditions than those I intend to use it?

    • xbqo

Well I think I found it.

The Ghostery extension ( https://addons.opera.com/en/extensions/details/ghostery/?display=en ) is crashing opera.

      • xbqo

I’m still not sure, but this time I tested a few more times. And it seems the offending extension is Smart RSS

    • Muhammad Ubaid Raza

For me it was Gmail notifier.

OSX Command-Shift-Right Arrow and Command-Shift-Left Arrow is default for selecting text. This should not be used for switching tabs.

      DNA-24576 😉

    • L33t4opera

Hi John, you can rebind it, following the steps, mentioned here.

  • MarkusMK

In the Bookmarks Bar there are no more generic icons on pages without favicon if the bookmark is in a folder. Confirmed than Version 23.

  • kokolo5

    Great guys,

the bookmarks manager looks so awesome and feels very smooth., good job, i can’t wait to use it in Opera Stable (:

But at the same time: Really, i need “Stash” to – it’s a great feature to read the articles later.

    Example based on my parents:

My father needs Stash because of the screenshots, he would not find a saved page without very large images.

My mother on other hand collects recipes, sewing works, digital postcards – and assigns it into structured folder. So she needs a real archive, bookmarks manager is perfect for that, also because of the small previews. The Chrome Quick Access Bar is too small, unattractive, disorganized for that and has no image previews

    So please, let us use both at the same time > “Stash” and “Bookmarks” – at least it should be an option (;

    • Rodders

In this build stash equates to ‘unsorted bookmarks’

      • https://christoph142.wordpress.com/ Christoph142

        So?

        • Rodders

          So what?

          • https://christoph142.wordpress.com/ Christoph142

What does this info has to do with OP’s request to use Stash and Bookmarks in parallel?

          • Rodders

You can, as sorted and unsorted bookmarks!

          • Alex

            Sorry, I don’t think that’s the point…
Unsorted bookmarks are still in the bookmarks manager… Maybe some people would like to keep some links in the bookmarks because they use it frequently, but they might want to use Stash for reasons posted by kokolo5…

          • Rodders

What is wrong with them all being together in the manager? That is plus point in my book, and I have used stash quite a lot myself. Anyway I have nothing more to say on this matter because things are progressing as I would like them! 🙂

          • Alex

I’m not against how things are progressing either. I’m definitely not attacking you (I hope you didn’t feel like I did). But there’s still a difference between having Stash and moving those items in Unsorted Bookmarks…

Remember how angry/upset were the users when they only had Speed Dial and Stash. They said Speed Dial is not meant for bookmarks. Well, unsorted bookmarks are not meant for stash items. It’s just a matter of opinions.

          • Rodders

Well I always wanted a unified solution for bookmarks, stash and speed dial, so any progress in that direction is ok by me. Others may feel differently.

          • kokolo5

I think “Bookmarks” should be standard, with the heart symbol. Every browser has a bookmark manager and Stash can’t be a replacement for bookmarks. But it’s also a nice feature – it’s separates bookmarks from “read later sites”.
            Of course you can find them in the unsorted list, but a few people sort not immediately, they just save sites and do it later (;
( and some people maybe – like my father like the screenshots )

I think developers can give us the choice to use both at the same time in the power user mode.

            But i agree, bookmarks manager should be the standard (;

          • https://christoph142.wordpress.com/ Christoph142

I don’t think that an “unsorted” folder is better visualized than a “sorted” folder…
I suspect you either didn’t read or understand the OP’s issue here.

    • Alex

I agree. I’m happy the bookmark manager is back (although I haven’t been able to test it yet on Dev 25), but I wished there was an option to keep Stash as well.

      • Corzo

Same here, I wish the developers find a way to keep stash as is.

    • Krisztián Lengyel

The list view looks in the bookmark manager is quite similar to the stash with no previews. The best would be a zoombar (as in the stash) that would increase/decrease the size of preview in the list view. 🙂
Probably it would be useful in the normal bookmarks too sometimes.

    • Octavio Rios

It would also be great if they could change that “folder” icon from the bookmarks bar to the folder icon from the new bookmarks manager, because it looks awful.

    • Herr Pietrus

Perhaps there should be separated links to bookmarks (with option to choose default folder) and unsorted bookmarks?
And perhaps we could get two additional views – something even bigger than actual thumbnails to use it in unsorted ‘stash” folder and… personally I’d like to have something between list and thumbnails view… like old 🙂 “tiles view” in Windows Explorer.

    • A. R.

Leave the stash feature alone! It’s among few things that make Opera unique!

      • Corzo

Totally agree and most important is not an extension is a feature built in .

    • Mateusz Madej

We would have to think about the way to preserve Stash and keep adding to Stash/Speed Dial/Bookmarks simple and intuitive. My guess is that this is the trickiest part of that task, but our design guys and gals are awesome so who knows… Maybe they’ll figure it out.

      • Muhammad Ubaid Raza

Yes pls don’t remove stash. It serve it purpose well.

        • Corzo

          You say it well.

      • Nekomajin43

How about a third, stash-like view besides grid and list views?

      • http://www.facebook.com/hector.maciasayala Hector Macias Ayala

        Simple, intuitive and unified please.

      • Nick Schaedel

Safari has both a reading list (stash – save and then delete when read) and a bookmark manager (long term, repeat use, permanent collection). Opera now has both functions too. This is a win-win. If you are concerned that speed dial is now losing its point of difference, re-implement the “dial” by having 1-9 be keyboard shortcuts when in any tab.

        • ForsakenFx

This was something I really missed in the beginning (and still do), but I do enjoy having Speed Dial folders as I usually open multiple speed dial items at the same time.

          • Nick Schaedel

Imagine how nice it would be to hit command+1 and open your folder of five pages with one tap!

      • Footman

Just add the ability to change the size of preview and we have categorized stash.

      • ForsakenFx

It could have just remained the way it was previously… What you’ve done now is just removed two options, and combined two features which seem to have been preferred as separate functionality.

I would have honestly preferred the old heart menu with the previous bookmark option replaced. Rather than having a simple or intuitive way to bookmark things, you’ve actually increased the interaction involved to properly sort bookmarks.

Also while it’s nice to be able to have visual bookmarks, the fact that I cannot select multiple bookmarks, or change the sort order of the bookmarks makes it less useful.

To nest folders you currently need to type the name of the folder, click add and then move the folder manually means it is more involved than it should be. It would make more sense to add a hotkey like ctrl+alt+n so that you can add a folder (or a new manual bookmark, which is also missing).

Being able to edit the name or delete a folder should be something that I can do from anywhere, not just from My Folders. Re-adding the trash functionality (which is is at times a lifesaver) and adding an icon to click to rename the folder would be much appreciated.

The bookmark manager also needs some optimization with larger amounts of bookmarks as with 5000 it is extremely slow and cumbersome.

        • ForsakenFx

I would also love if you took at some point included tags for further organization; Firefox has a decent implementation but their performance issues are worse than even Opera Developer at its worst.

        • ForsakenFx

Found out that it’s possible to multi-select using the checkbox in the top left, though I would still prefer being able to do so in a similar fashion to the traditional ctrl+click method which is much quicker and a common paradigm (even for web applications).

    • Footman

Personally i do not need old stash with this kind of new bookmark manager. It would just be nice to set the size of preview like in stash. Also to “dislike” some page directly.

  • kokolo5

I saw just now the new star page o-o
It looks just WOW – it looks so fucking beautiful, the colours ( black, yes ), the ordners, just everything – you are on the right way. Thanks for the hard work (:

    • NimeshT

something different when other browsers are imitating Opera’s innovation of speed dial

      • http://www.facebook.com/hector.maciasayala Hector Macias Ayala

Outinnovation is the way to go!!

    • http://www.facebook.com/hector.maciasayala Hector Macias Ayala

Just tried it and OMG!! this looks promising indeed, I will just wait O25 reaches stable and use it, I’m taking a vacation from the monster O23 became, will see if O24 gets better, otherwise I will wait.

    • Yves

      Screen ?!

  • becool

Do expect in opera CUSTOMIZABLE mouse gestures?

  • inDigazzZ

    1. Open ‘Private Window’
    2. Click Opera button.
    Crash

    1. Open ‘Private Window’

    2. Click ‘Bookmarks (Stash)’
Page opens in not private window.

    • Mateusz Madej

What is your OS? I can’t reproduce this.

      • reesmichael1

I’ve had several crashes in private windows when typing into the address bar. It doesn’t seem to happen every time though.

  • xbqo

When I have multiple opera window opened, tooltip from windows not on the front is also shown.

  • John Smith

Does someone know is vertical tabs even planed to be added?

    • Denyer

As soon as they add the bookmarks importer I hope! Then I might be able to put v12 to rest 😉

      • A. R.

There is a bookmarks manager already

        opera://bookmark-importer/

But other critical features such as moving cache location and tab stacking/grouping is missing.

I believe that Opera will deliver, but I’m loosing my faith with every release.

        • Denyer

Ahh thanks for that, I expected it might be buried and just couldn’t find it! Is there a summary of opera:// locations anywhere?

          • Petter Nilsen

The bookmark importer is disabled when bookmarks is enabled as its functionality is already in bookmarks (imported bookmarks).

          • Denyer

Woo, I got it all working by disabling bookmarks, then starting opera with the -presto-small flag (can’t remember it exactly) to force it to find my 12.x profile.

Also apologies for spamming replies, but Disqus is completely boned in Opera, in fact may well be boned in all browsers that are set to reject cross domain cookies!

        • Denyer

Hmm, that URL gives me a page not found – does something need to be enabled elsewhere?

        • Denyer

That url is a 404 for me?

        • Denyer

That address is a 404 for me ? Is there something else I need to enable ?

        • Denyer

That address is a “not found” for me, is there something I need to enabled?

  • oCircuit

    The new start page under

    opera://flags/ ( activate

experimental start page ) looks incredible beautiful….stunning. And the coast-like feature works perfect there.

Thanks, it looks and feels much much better as the normal start page, i will use it instead of the normal one ^^

    • NoName

      Yea it looks better.
I just have an issue with the new thumbnail system.

I got several internal websites in my company, and they all looks the same without a preview now (as they are under the same domain). It does not help, that their name is hidden unless you hover the speed dial.

      • Rodders

Yes I noticed some of my SD icons now look exactly the same in this format. For example my SD links to Opera Desktop Blog and Opera Extensions.

      • rufu2

Agree, it looks great but needs finetuning (it’s still an experiment…)
The icon / preview thing would be best solved similar to how it’s done with bookmarks and the heart button.

        • Herr Pietrus

          Definitely previews 🙂

    • http://www.lalaurette.com.ar/ Sebastián Lalaurette

I prefer the look of the traditional Speed Dial (bigger thumbnails, ideal for extensions). I’d like to have that view with the sidebar for bookmarks (opening in the same tab) and Discover and whatever else goes in there.

  • josemuk

The bookmarks bar shows doubled icons if the bookmark doesn’t have a name.

    • Marcin Mitek

It will be tracked as DNA-24581

    • Vux777

add space to name, and it will fix it

      • ayespy

Can’t. I use an extension that hides the names.

        • A. R.

Opera doesn’t develop extensions. Post to the author of the extension.

          • ayespy

Why on earth would I do that? The absence of a title on the bookmarks bar is exactly what I want. The fact that Opera cannot properly handle a blank title on the bookmarks bar (in this version only) is not the fault of the extension builder.

        • Vux777

          well…bummer 🙂

  • http://www.arcadechaser.com Poyeyo

What about Linux 32bits, is it in the plans?

  • myxelloss

Amazing the changelog for this build! 😛 Congratulations!. I have seen four things here:

    1. Default page zoom is about 90% for all pages (Linux), and all is sooo small (see gmail, as an example).
    2. Interface icons are blurry in all the interface (example: the favicons in the tabs).

    3. Text in the omnibox and the “link preview” shown in the bottom when you hover a link are very big compared to the rest of the interface elements.

    4. SSL authentication is still not working (dialog to choose a certificate is not appearing, and Opera hangs forever.)

    Thank you for your work!

  • rufu2

    Wow, thanks. Cool stuff 🙂

The bookmarks manager is getting better all the time!
How can I import an old opera.adr file in my O25 USB installation?

Still, I don’t know if it needs to be either-or with bookmarks and stash. Maybe if “unsorted bookmarks” could behave differently than the others? Like, you can set a list view of all bookmarks but picture previews of the unsorted ones? Or, if stash could remember where you left reading, it would be special enough for my taste to keep it as an extra “read-it-later” tool.

  • Sidney Moraes

Notifications will work even I close Gmail tab?

    • Przemek Kudła

No, notifications are triggered by a web page itself.

  • NoName

Notifications for me shows a quite ugly icon for Opera on Win 8.1.
    See attached image for example.

    • Mikolaj Boc

I’ll try to search for a possible solution. Thanks for posting the screenshot.

  • ahoj1234

    a bug with WEB-NOTIFICATIONS.

    test page: (for example)

    https://developer.cdn.mozilla.net/media/uploads/demos/e/l/elfoxero/c17223c414d8ddafb7808972b5617d9e/html5-notifications_1400214081_demo_package/index.html#en

what’s wrong: icon of notification is missing

    steps to reproduce it:
    -allow this w-notification

    -set up a w-notification

    -display it

image: (on clean installation is Odev logo. On this “dirty” is logo missing //dirty = updated only from 24+dev, no 23dev builds were here// – bad and should not be missing but..)

    thanks for confirmations.
W8.1, clean separated (or call it USB) install.
(updated install even without the Odev logo – though, the logo is missing on windows main panel as well when Opera is opened, not reporting, just saying).

    • Mikolaj Boc

      Hi there.

Seems like you’ve fallen prey to our really early experiments with Web Notifications. Could you please:

      – go to %APPDATA%

      – remove all Opera*Message Center*.lnk shortcuts?

That should resolve the issue. Anyway, thanks for turning on the feature flags as soon as they are available 🙂

  • http://www.facebook.com/hector.maciasayala Hector Macias Ayala

Now I can’t set delay for tab preview, it will reset to 600 ms upon restart, same problem for O24 Next, it was ok just before, I don’t understand if it a bug or why it affects both builds.

  • Golin

Wow! Amazing! Who cares about the old bookmarks system, the simple and effective irc client or the old look, feel and settings of Opera when you can have NOTIFICATIONS! And more detailed changelogs! Our best days sure are ahead of us…

PS: I’m sure you are lagging behind chromium again just to not lose the habit. 🙂

    • kapsi

      Well I don’t.

    • reesmichael1

A carbon copy of Opera 12 will never come because it’s unnecessary. There are many other improvements in this build. You may not have seen them yet, but that doesn’t mean they’re not there.

      • A. R.

non is talking about “carbon copy” – we are talking basic features.

        • plague

The old look and feel is not “basic features” and for obvious reasons won’t happen, just like old Opera switched look and feel in some major releases.

A bookmark system is a “basic feature” however, and it’s been actively worked on for several versions now, it’s just not finished yet but it can be activated in opera://flags.

An IRC client is unlikely to be built-in in the new Opera, as it’s better suited as an extension. Remember that when old Opera introduced the IRC client (Opera 7.50), there was no extension framework available. An extension framework wasn’t introduced until Opera 11. The new Opera uses Chrome extensions, so finding an IRC client should be a no brainer, ie: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/search/irc

One thing I _do_ agree with though, is the customizability of Opera 12. Especially the UI, adding/removing buttons, inputfields, etc from any panel in the UI. Adding custom search boxes, etc.
I’m hoping something like this will be introduced later, as they claim they want to focus on UI innovation and that was one thing Opera 12 was excellent at.

  • Rodders

A comment regarding the Bookmarks entry in the menu button (which I’ve only just noticed!). I have some unsorted bookmarks listed there which have very long titles, and the window is very wide to accommodate them. Not in itself a problem, but it means my Bookmark folders are placed at the end of this very wide window and are not very accessible there. Maybe the window width can be limited in some fashion?

    • escruting

Yep, was thinking the same, it should be like in Opera 12, fixed width and show the whole text on mouse hover.

Also, please make a button next to the speed dial with this bookmark menu, this would be killer and what a lot of users are waiting for.

      • Inquisitor

A bookmark button right next to the Home Page/Speed Dial button on the Address Bar would be perfect.

        • cgebhard

What about having a selection on the behaviour (target page) of this very button? (e.g. in super user settings):
          1) Speeddial
          2) Bookmarks
          3) Discover

        • DanielHendrycks

Where is the theme you’re using available? The tabs in my Opera Developer do not have rounded corners.

          • Vux777

            you are probably on win8.1
this is how it looks like on win7

        • A. R.

Indeed. A lot of people dislike bookmarks bar. And leave the stash feature as it is. Stash is among the few features that makes this browser Opera.

  • escruting

Bug in this version and also O24 Next: The scroll bars do not change color when you hover the mouse through them. They should change to light blue.

    Win7 x64

    • NoName

      Confirmed on Win8.1

They should get a darker grey color on hover.

    • Alex

      Confirmed – W7 x86

  • ABDX

There is this weird space under the book importer entry in more tools in the O menu

  • oic

look like bookmark is replace stash which is good. I still like to be able to click the heart icon on the URL location bar to add and REMOVE the bookmark from unsorted, like with speed dials

btw how do you add speed dials now. I think that icon next to the heart is missing

  • oCircuit

It’ all currently develope in the right direction. But it would be a perfect browser when “Discover” will transform into a rss-reader. The feature is great, but some of us have other interests and more important: THE MAINSTREAM PRESS is not for everybody – there are so much better and more serious alternative news sources. Like this for example: http://whowhatwhy.com/ or

It would be great, when i could add sites which I prefer.

    • Rodders

Yes the ability to add personal feeds to Discover has been requested before and is a good idea.

  • ma_t14

For some reason I can’t get notifications to work. I have the notifications flag enabled but still nothing happens e.g. when I receive a new email through gmail (i enabled the notifications option).

Or using this site, for testing notifications: http://www.sitepoint.com/html5-desktop-notifications/

It first says that notifications are supported on this browser but when I click on the alert button I get “Browser Support Sorry. Notifications aren’t supported on this browser.”.

Please don’t tell me that desktop notifications are tied with UAC like metro apps, if so that would suck big time. I hate UAC and have it always disabled 🙁

  • L33t4opera

I really appreciate, that you added new keybindings, thanks 😉
    “BookmarkManager”: [“Ctrl+Shift+B”], “NavFavorites” : [“Ctrl+Space”, “Alt+Home”]
I made a small adjustment, accordingly to my needs – I changed them as follows:
    “BookmarkManager”: [“Ctrl+Shift+O”], “NavFavorites” : [“Ctrl+Shift+F].

  • Nekomajin43

Nice build! I’d like to ask a few questions about possible developements.

I like the new speed dial thumbnail design, but if I add several sites from the same domain (for example http://www.opera.com and forums.opera.com) the thumbnail will be the same, which is quite disturbing. Can we espect any change in this area?

Will the bookmarks manager open on a new tab, or is it just a temporary solution?

Will you add additional fields to the bookmarks manager, like nickname, and sorting option by name, created date and visited date?

    • Muhammad Ubaid Raza

Confirmed, two speed-dial from a smae website (different urls) looks same. This needs update.

  • Dustin Falgout

Anyone else on linux experiencing terrible font rendering after this update?

    • Florian Jüttner

My fonts are also butchered. With Opera Dev 24 everything was ok, but now I can’t hardly read anything.

      • Dustin Falgout

Glad to know its not just me. I will have to revert to 24 if an update doesnt come today..i can’t stand it

  • Mister

Dear friends, say please, how i can disable check for updates on Opera 23?

  • dflyra

I just got back home and launched Opera developer. Before I say anything or assimilate all changes, I have to say one thing: CONGRATULATIONS!!! In just one month or so you’ve made at least one year’s progress!

  • kokolo5

Your poll http://fluidsurveys.com/surveys/operasurveystest/opera-desktop-survey-q3/?p=2&s=eyJwYWdlcGF0aCI6IFswLCAxLCAyXX0%3D&__cache_key__=1eff48b302cf85f14c9ab4316f34972e&k=645e7de6a41de81d710caf8a39560a5f846e93ae&h=da0ace8969366058e2459bb3fb37a41d will bring wrong conclusions, in the german poll there are two “very satisfied” selection options. “Very dissatisfied” is missing in the german version.

  • cgebhard

The bookmark manager and new start page are looking good. You’re probably still improving the features, but for me the following points were missing:

    – if bookmarks were indexed in the same way as Stash items, searching the unsorted ones would be as effective as searching stash
    – if the “search bookmarks” input field was automatically focused, you could just start typing right away, since unsorted bookmarks are shown upfront and many might be searching them anyways
    – pressing Ctrl-F in bookmark-manager should override the browser searching-feature and focus the bookmark seach-field

  • Vux777

Opera again didn’t find PPAPi flash (compared to portable comodo dragon)
    flag enabled

  • cgebhard

Is there a way to “manually” add a bookmark to the manager? I tried to add a bookmarklet (obviously I couldn’t open it as a separate tab and use the heart menu).
The only ways I figured out were either editing an existing bookmark or draging the bookmarklet-link to the bookmarks-bar and then move it within the bm-manager to the right location.

An option “add to bookmarks” when right-clicking a link would be nice or the same “+” button in bm manager as it is found on speeddial.

  • Sidney Moraes

Discover was not working properly in previous version and in the new one it is the same thing.

    • https://christoph142.wordpress.com/ Christoph142

Yes, totally blank over here, too.

      • Sidney Moraes

Maybe it is a server issue because sometimes it works

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/max1cp?feature=mhum Maxim

So is there any ETA on release of bookmarks and new startpage? It’s nice to see all this cute stuff but I am still waiting for Link =

    • Leonardo Gomes

      You mean on Stable?

      • SQL

I guess he means when are the Bookmarks and the new startpage getting finished so Sync will be available.

        • http://www.youtube.com/user/max1cp?feature=mhum Maxim

Well yes, pretty much this. I’m kinda disappointed that apparently priority has become to cater to whiners on this blog instead of giving people the features that they need.

          • Dave-H

Sorry, but why should what you want be given priority over what others want?
Aren’t you a “whiner” too, because you haven’t got sync yet?
OK, no-one was asking for a new start page, but people have been asking for a proper bookmarking system since Opera 15!
Yes, sync/link is important, and we know it’s in the pipeline.
            🙂

          • http://www.youtube.com/user/max1cp?feature=mhum Maxim

Yes, obviously feature that was said to never be included was forced into the development by 20 people spamming here. I am clearly a whiner for asking a feature that everyone needs, once here. Cool story bro.

          • Dave-H

I think you will find it was rather more than “20 people spamming here”!
You obviously weren’t on the old myopera forum after Opera 15 was released!
            😀

          • http://www.youtube.com/user/max1cp?feature=mhum Maxim

Yes, obviously you are correct. It’s not like i was using Opera since version 8 or something and reading blog/forums every day.

          • Dave-H

            Thanks for the sarcasm.
If you were aware of what was happening then you must remember the furore when it was discovered that the new browser had no traditional bookmarking system!
“Where are the bookmarks?” was the number one complaint, long before most people thought about Sync.
Opera are addressing things in the order that they see fit.
            🙂

I’ve tried to get an answer for the MSE & H.264 playback, not sure if it’s coming or not. MSE is supported in Chromium, it would just require some hacks to make it work with their H.264 implementations.

    • L33t4opera

Hi Ralf, what if you switch off the Flash plug-in in the opera:plugins, does it helps?

      • Ralf Brinkmann

        No.

  • Inquisitor

I set my Windows 7 DPI to 100%, the page zoom in O25 to 100% and fonts to ‘normal’ (=16), and still the fonts look ugly, compared to O12 (see attachment: O25 on the left, O12 on the right).

Is there something I overlook, or is the font rendering in Blink/Chromium indeed so much inferior to Presto? And will this be improved in future releases?

    • Denyer

Alas, the font rendering in Chrome has been awful forever, and it shows no signs of changing 🙁

      • Petter Nilsen

        Tried enabling DirectWrite in opera:flags?

  • DataZByteS

I like the new bookmark manager page, however could we have an option for it, and updated speed dial, to make page previews in the same way as current stable speed dial?
I find page screenshots a lot more useful then domain names.
Currently Id have to go through all of the bookmarks manually load each page and select a screenshot, which is quite lengthy.

  • Denyer

Am I missing something – I can’t seem to find the bookmark importer to bring my bookmarks from V12 ?

    • Alex

      This one?
Menu -> More tools -> Bookmark importer

      • taneli

Funnily, that menu item goes away after you enable bookmarks from opera:/flags :p

        • Alex

          I didn’t know (I haven’t changed from Stash yet)
          Does opera://bookmark-importer work?

          • taneli

            No.

          • Alex

So I guess one should enable bookmarks after importing?

          • taneli

Well, the whole bookmark thing is still experimental, and not yet ready even for this Alpha stream (since it’s only in flags), so i’d just wait for the moment for them to finish it up.

          • Alex

            I agree. It’s looking promising though 🙂

      • Denyer

Yeah, I don’t see that option. I have “Clear browsing data”, a gap, then “Enable Developer Tools”

Which is why I said I might be missing something. Any ideas?

  • mozzer

I’m still waiting for some elementary features for me. Can I expect sooner or later such features as tab grouping, Dragonfly, session manager or webpage properties?

    • http://www.lalaurette.com.ar/ Sebastián Lalaurette

Why exactly do you need a session manager? You can save a whole session to a Speed Dial folder and retrieve it with ease. Dragonfly is now the Web Inspector, I think. The other two features I also hope will come back. 🙂

      • mozzer

Ohh, come on! Saving sessions into a Speed Dial? It’s very unintuitive. And I don’t wont to have such a mess in my speed dial. They are completely different issues. I have tens sessions currently. How can I seat them in my speed dial (where I have another tens of folders and sites)?

        • http://www.lalaurette.com.ar/ Sebastián Lalaurette

Yeah, it was just a suggestion, since it doesn’t look like a session manager is in the works. There are some nice extensions that provide the functionality.

  • taneli

http://cail.solja.net/media/osp.jpg doesn’t look half-bad, but indeed would be good to have the bottom-bar there all the time, so you could distinguish between several SD items on same domain.

Also, are these items going to be affected by the speed dial settings (size etc.) in the options, when ready?

    • escruting

Yeah, i think the same. The screens we have are always gonna be increasing in size and i dont think everything should be made so simple to the eyes.

The name of the speed dial entry should be visible at all times, or atleast an option to do so.

Also i miss having the settings directly on the speed dial itself, the settings page is so cluttered and its hard to find the options. In O12 the settings window was so much more organized and easy to use. And we had the speed dial settings on the speed dial itself, no need to go to a different page and search for little options.

Actually i think the problem with the settings is having to have them on a full page and with so much wasted space. I like old Opera, Firefox and IE settings. On a window and much more organized and visible than the Chrome way

      • kokolo5

The design of the settings window looks much simpler now and modern. But is impractical.

I agree, a little cozy window can be clear and would be practical, the look could be adapted from the new speed dial with transparent black % white colour schema.

  • Dave-H

Am I the only one who’s finding that this version isn’t remembering its window size?
No matter how I size it, on restart it always comes back as it was before.
    It is remembering being maximized.
No one else has mentioned this except me AFAIK.
    Windows XP SP3.
    🙁

    • Vux777

      same on win7 x64

      • Dave-H

Thank goodness it’s not just me, and thank goodness it’s not just happening on Windows XP, as I suspect it wouldn’t be so much of a priority to address if that was the case!
I was just surprised no-one else had mentioned it.
        🙂

        • Vux777

well, it’s not the end of the world if windows won’t remember size ツ

          • Dave-H

True, but it’s still very annoying!
It’s something that all Windows programs should do, and Opera did until this version.
            🙂

    • ayespy

The new Opera (since 15) has ALWAYS done that on Win 8 on my box.

      • taneli

Never seen this problem here on Win8.1 x64, in any version.

        • Dave-H

          Nor have I, until now!
          🙁

Great, now I can’t add a website to speed dial without going on the + button and copying the link of it (on speed dial page) Genius.

Plus, why everytime I click the heart menu, it adds the current website I am surfing to bookmark manager? I just want to see my bookmarks, not adding anything.

    • kokolo5

      You can see your bookmarks when you click on “Bookmarks” above the speed dial fields or in the “O-menu” under “Bookmarks” > “Show Bookmarks” (;

But I don’t want to click 2 times to get to bookmarks. ugh

If you would like, you can easy check the default keybindings, just follow the below steps:
            1. Open Windows Explorer (WinKey+E), and go to your Opera profile directory (check the path in: O-Menu>About Opera>Paths>Profile),
            2. Search for the subfolder, whose name should be the same as the version number of the Opera, for example: “25.0.1583.1”. Inside it, you should see the “opera.pak” file, open it in your text editor, and search for ‘ “Keybind ‘ 😉

      • Leonardo Gomes

You can right click on the page and then “add to speed dial”

If translate worked, there is a flag in Opera for an experimental sync

  • MarkG54321

As much as love Opera, I’m now in limbo. I went to Chrome when Opera switched to the 15 codebase, as I needed the ability to sync bookmarks. Since then I also bought a Chromebook, and I use Chrome on Android (as Opera on Android is a massive battery hog, still). Even if I want to come back to Opera on the desktop (and I do), it’s now going to be hard to, unless when you finally get around to implementing Sync, you offer the option of using Google’s sync services as well as Opera’s own. I really hope this will happen (but I suspect not). I hope you see it as a good way of getting users FROM Chrome.

  • Андрей

    Synchronization!

    • https://christoph142.wordpress.com/ Christoph142

      WIR!

    • ma_t14

I can see that there’s flag that can be enabled that adds a menu item “Synchronize…” but it doesn’t seem to do anything more functionality-wise than in previous builds, or am I wrong?

  • taneli

Not sure if this an Opera problem, or something google’s done… but when ever i open a youtube video from another page (be it opening a link or clicking the “youtube” icon in an embedded player), it won’t read my cookies -> not logged in and not having my preferences.
Refreshing the page helps, and it will deliver the login cookies though.

  • Dmitry Kirin

Thanks for the new version! The changelog is impressive.

As for the new start page and the conversion of Stash to unsorted bookmarks, I must say I sometimes can’t understand where you are directing the UI. I don’t think the unsorted bookmarks are a good replacement for Stash, at least for me. I don’t use thumbnails in Stash, I’ve set all items squeezed to titles only. When I want to use Stash, I type in a search phrase and expect the search to limit the list in no time. No thumbnails, no waste of screen space—just a list of page titles.

The experimental start page is great, almost what I wanted. Almost, because in general, I don’t need a sleeker UI for the sake of style only. I need it to better meet the style of ‘processing’ in my head. What I’m seeing now is that it’s all Metro and stylish but I’m constantly stumbling on obstacles with it. A Speed Dial title is only shown on hover, while I’m usually move the mouse after I’ve spotted the needed one. All SDs are square—it’s Metro and all, but when it comes to showing titles, the very fact that our writing is horizontal substantiates that width is ought to be greater than height…

So please, give some thought to those of us who relies on textual perception. I guess, there are especially many of us among the IT folk.

    • Nekomajin43

Well, it yould work with the bookmarks too. They just need to use the omnibox API.

      • Dmitry Kirin

Omnibox search is just one form of search. It could either show a floating dropdown list, the way it does now, or lead to a dedicated page, a search centre, but that would be the current Stash.

I feel everything is there, in one form or another: organisable and unsorted bookmarks, different views for the same data items, one or another form of search across it, etc. We just need some consistency, some vision behind those twists of design. As of now, I fail to see it. Maybe, however, it’s just an art too high for me, though.

        • Nekomajin43

          I think/hope it’s just a work in progress.

    • A. R.

No! OMG! Leave the stash feature alone. It’s among the few things that make the new Opera and Opera browser. People love to stash!

      > No thumbnails, no waste of screen space—just a list of page titles.

      • Dmitry Kirin

        Wow! I haven’t, till now… That’s awesome, thanks! 🙂

Love the new start page! Great work, Opera.

  • Herr Pietrus

1 I don’t like new star page look.very much. These buttons on the left side are huge and UGLY! At least they should be DARK GRAY WITH LIGHT BACKGROUND, they should look like sidebar menu! But still I prefer old arrangement…
2 I wont REAL, CLASSIC THUMBNAILS IN NEW START page! Some favicons are ugly… 🙂
In current state there HAS TO BE an option to edit thumbnail page text! Now it takes first word before the last part of website address and as a result I have e.g one folder with five “gov” sites. Really handy…
3 Where is that nice separate button for adding page to speed dial?!

4 Bookmark manager seems to be really good now. But will be there drop down menu for fast opening bookmarks FROM MAIN BAR not from menu? Please, think about it. Menu hidden among opera’s options is useless. Sure, we have neater bookmarks, but…
And BTW – change that ugly yellow folder icon…It should be gray…
5 Thumbnails in bookmark manager should have an option to choose their size. As for me they are currently too big but thumbnails view is quite attractive and possibly better than list.

Were is the flag for disabling HiDPI support?!!!

There is always people that are not happy with something. Sometimes you just have to deal with it.

      • Herr Pietrus

I;m not unhappy, but I don;t like some part of presented changes and that’s my suggestions how to make them better! 🙂

        • plague

well I’m one of the people who like those presented changes, so your suggestions for making them better would make them worse in my opinion.

    • kokolo5

I like the new start page.
      The size of buttons are perfect, i found always there were too small. But they could be even brighter (: The icons on speed dial are very cool and i will use them. I don’t understand you, you don’t like the new startpage, but you want that details changing according to your taste. I think this is unfair. When you don’t like the new start page anyway i have good news for you : Use the old one, you said you prefer it over the new one (;

I personally think, that grey is outdated, this color is so depressed. White and black are so much nicer.

      • taneli

Actually there could be a simple fix to fit more peoples liking with this new Opera, as it is, the internal pages are just webpages, they could expose some of the elements in those pages (like on SpeedDial) so users could use extensions like Stylish to modify the pages to their needs.
This would of course, only cater a small minority of people and hence i don’t think it will be happening, but it would be nice.

      • Herr Pietrus

I think that new version will be better also for me if they add possibility to use website miniatures alongside with currently implemented text and icons. And buttons, hmm.. they are too big for me but all in all quite good. Perhaps they should give us an option to choose dark/white background? Then we could match look of the buttons to our theme 🙂

  • Alacran

Please, passwords are not saved on some https pages, also Opera does NOT offer to save passwords for those https pages.
Now, I have to manually enter the password every time when I browse to my WiFi AP, or when I want to log on to my server for example.
This is a regression and was eventually fixed, but the bug was re-introduced a few version back whit the https fixes.
This is very annoying, please fix!

    • Herr Pietrus

      That’s right!
Opera still can’t automatically fill login and password fields on Outlook.com although they are among “saved” passwords… 🙁

      • Alacran

Exactly! That’s what I mean, it worked for some time but was broken again a couple of versions back.

    • A. R.

For me the password manager works quite well, but not on new pages that password I want to be saved – as the bar that appears to ask if one wants passw to be saved, it’s there only a second or two and I can’t nor other people can’t reach to click yes or no or dismiss at that time. The notification bar should stay up longer than just a second or two.

    • tdudziec

Hi thanks for the information, could you report the bug using https://bugs.opera.com/wizarddesktop/ and provide with more info about exactly pages you can’t log?

  • Herr Pietrus

Oh, one more thing. I don’t know how it will look eventually, but there should be a possibility to set default directory which will be opened after choosing bookmarks link from speed dial page. I suppose that usually people would like to launch one of their “long-term” bookmarks instead of stash pages. In this scenario currently they need one more click…

  • moto0000

Maybe add bookmarks to start page and grouping tab feature and hide “add” button on Speed Dial page 😀

  • taneli

Can you give any comment if these features might make a return sometime in the future:
    1) Download Management (eg. select file/mime types to be opened on external programs, think many have requested this).
    2) Ability to change the default search engines (many users want startpage.com or duckduckgo.com as default).

    • A. R.

I’ll second both of these, especially the first one. But both of these – I was stunned that Opera doesn’t already have those. When people mention that there are no features and options in Opera – they are not talking trash.

    • rafaeljvieira

According to Opera Devs, not being able to change the default search engines is a temporary thing, to prevent browser hijacking. So, regarding 2), I’d say it will come back in the future.

  • Na Nguyen

please add option Disable Cache, and
    please add feature smooth scrolling.

  • taneli

Oh for fucks sake. Just noticed that this version brought back all the default search engines i deleted before, to make room for my own (used “y” for youtube search, back to Yahoo, for one).
Just let me get rid of these junks.

    • http://www.UnrealRex.com/ GF-REX

Noooooooooooooo!! I too lost my custom ‘y’ for Youtube.

I can understand forcing these search engines and locking them for security and all, but please let us change the keywords/shortcuts at least! I have to add a custom Amazon one just to assign it to ‘a’ and not being able to use ‘y’ for Youtube is driving me crazy. I’ve been accidentally giving Yahoo a bunch of pointless queries because of that. lol

  • Guilimote

I noticed a real degradation of font display on this build (Windows 7). Fonts are blurry, and letters like “e” are even nearly transparent at the top and the bottom.
The previous rendering was far better…

It seems to be back to normal if I disable DirectWrite in opera:flags

Rendering is OK with latest Opera Next:
    http://img110.xooimage.com/files/8/6/f/onext-4704e78.png

Rendering is KO with latest Opera Dev:
    http://img110.xooimage.com/files/d/3/b/odev-4704e6f.png

Is it something which can be improved or corrected?

    • gfrichmond

I’m seeing a similar issue as well. But I’m on linux, so no DirectWrite flag to change

    • SQL

      DirectWrite problems.
Quoting someone else – CSS text and some others have problems with directwrite, can’t remember wat else was bugged. Just disable the flag in Opera://flags and wait until everything works with directwrite

  • Sunny Guha

My discover feature stopped working!!. Is anyone else facing the same issue. The Discover page shows up blank. I absolutely love Discover.

    • taneli

After starting up Opera, i checked all the old places, Discover didn’t load… waited some 15-20 minutes, checked again, didn’t load… kept on going and checked again abt. 2 hours later, then it loaded and showed up normally.

    • Der Herr Nick

Try changing the language. That worked for me.

  • https://vivaldi.net/unity/profile/chas4/6-blog Chas4

    Bookmarks !!!

    DNA-23759 Cat Crash in base::Thread::Run <— that a string?

    • Mateusz Stachowski

The menu items in Ubuntu 14.04 LTS aren’t missing. Only the Opera button dissapeared.

The menu is now normal one like the rest of your programs. It’s either global menu up there on the panel or LIM (Locally Integrated Menu) right in the window decoration.

      • https://vivaldi.net/unity/profile/chas4/6-blog Chas4

I looked and there was no menu up top (no panel using Gnome)

        • Mateusz Stachowski

          I wrote about Unity.

GNOME has other approach to menus and maybe this change in Opera Developer doesn’t work in it.

          • https://vivaldi.net/unity/profile/chas4/6-blog Chas4

It might have, it was there for Opera dev 24

  • IllusionMH

Finnaly Opera get awesome emulator in dev tools. Yay! 🙂

  • Martin Fiala

Seems like Opera now uses DirectWrite for font rendering on Windows. Well, I’m not overly fond of DirectWrite, but pretty much anything is better than how Chrome/Opera rendered fonts before, so thanks, I guess…

    • NoName

I’m not fond of it either.
But it does give some advantages in transitions with text.

  • A. R.

I’m not gonna say much anything right now. I hope that the developer version 25 will bring on some stuff talked in the previous blog post discussion, and of course O25 developer to bring lot’s of new.

Could there be a bookmarks menu button somewhere, like next to reload/start page buttons or next to donwload button?

Many people dislike bookmarks bar, for me it takes away screen space from the page, so there should be other methods, such as button for menu, to access bookmarks and bookmark folders. Thank you.

    • http://www.tbochenek.de thorbenb

For not saying much you say a lot 😉 Where do you live? If you are ever near Oslo, come over to the office for a coffee and we can go through all your concerns in person. Probably a bit more efficient.

      • NoName

        You can do that? 🙂
        I should go to Oslo…

        • Marcin Mitek

…. or Wrocław, or Warsaw. Come to the dark side, we have a coffee.

          • L33t4opera

Hi Marcin, and what about Guinness? Sorry but I could not resist 😀 I think, that your photo is really cool!
I like both: black coffee, as well as Guinness beer 😉

          • Marcin Mitek

Oh that’s from Twitter 🙂 Coffee is a must have, Guinness is a guilty pleasure, remember to drink responsibly (and hydrate!).

          • L33t4opera

            Really well said! 😉

        • http://www.tbochenek.de thorbenb

You can if I invite you to 😉

          • NoName

That would be quite nice. But I think it would be hard to get enough people up there.

    • ma_t14

“Many people dislike bookmarks bar, for me it takes away screen space from the page, so there should be other methods, such as button for menu, to access bookmarks and bookmark folders.”

A menu item “Bookmarks” is exactly what you can have now with this build, or do you mean something else?

      • plague

He means a button on the main toolbar, next to the browsing buttons (prev, next, refresh, speed dial/startpage), like there is on most browsers.

  • taneli

Youtube’s Playlist and Live chat still overflows over the player itself.

Temp. fix for those who use extensions to inject userCSS (Like Stylish) can use:

    #player-api { z-index: 100 !important; }

for the time being to fix it (Depending on your extension, limit the style fix to youtube domain if possible).

  • A. R.

Thanks for bookmarks, albeit it needs tuning, for example a button to access the bookmarks menu.

Why did you polished the heart menu for several builds and releases… in the end to remove the menu but leave the icon – only for bookmarks? Could the drop-down menu be back?

Feature request please: tab stacking / grouping.

    • plague

The bookmark manager is still experimental and is still disabled as default, so I’m sure they will somehow integrate both bookmarks, stash and speed dial functionality into that menu, or some other way.

I personally hope they don’t remove stash completely when the bookmark manager is used, I think stash should still be available even when using bookmarks, as they complement each other. Just like speed dial does.

  • https://vivaldi.net/unity/profile/chas4/6-blog Chas4

Does the Network installation verify the download?

    • Przemek Kudła

      Yes, it does.

  • https://vivaldi.net/unity/profile/chas4/6-blog Chas4

For the start page have an option to disable the web search (they are some of us who don’t use that search we do the custom search via the address bar (I have 20 some custom searches))

    • Leonardo Gomes

Which search? Or you mean that while on SP, the address bar should not search the web?

      • https://vivaldi.net/unity/profile/chas4/6-blog Chas4

Yep the search bar in the speeddial

        • Leonardo Gomes

If you mean the google one then you can remove it on settings but you need to enable power user mode before by typing the konami code on settings page.

  • Didit A. Pamungkas

    1. Still laging hard playing any youtube on Linux with pepperflash enabled.
    2. Crashing opera with extension smart rss (rss update) both windows and linux

    • http://www.opera.com/ Grzegorz Miazga

I have tried https://addons.opera.com/extensions/details/smart-rss/?display=en with some feeds added but it does not crash for me. Any specific feeds you have there?

      • Didit A. Pamungkas

I don’t know, I can’t feeds from where crashing it.
        Specific, Hmm..
gmail feeds maybe?, I’ve 2 accounts gmail I subscribe.
with 2 account already sign in.

        ://mail.google.com/mail/u/2/feed/atom
        ://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/feed/atom

    • BS-Harou

Does it crash in some specific scenario or just randomly? Does it crash only when “Smart RSS” tab is opened or even without it? Are you sure Smart RSS is the extension that causes the crash? There is e.g. a known crash with GMail Notifier extension.

    • Herr Pietrus

For me Smart RSS also seems to work fine.

  • Nick Schaedel

I must admit, I non-judgmentally giggle at all the “no, leave Stash alone” posts after months of “it’s the worst, where’s bookmarks?”. Oh Internet, never change.

    • Dmitry Kirin

Noticed that too. 😉 Though I guess that it’s different people who post that.

    • Herr Pietrus

leave Stash alone =/= we don’t need bookmarks
stash can’t replace proper bookmarks! =/= stash is totally bad idea

    • reesmichael1

I giggled as well 🙂 Of course, Stash itself is actually an interesting idea. I believe the thinking behind it was something along the lines of “There are two different use cases for bookmarks: saving something to look at later (and then delete) and saving something permanently. Why don’t we split the two into separate implementations in Stash and Speed Dial, respectively?” I’ve actually found that Stash meets my use of the former rather well–which is why I wouldn’t mind if Stash stayed alongside a fully-fledged bookmarks manager.

    • http://www.lalaurette.com.ar/ Sebastián Lalaurette

The problem wasn’t the Stash itself, but the bizarre idea that it would completely replace bookmarks. When the devs (or, more probably, the management people) changed their minds and started bringing real bookmarks back, the Stash hate all but disappeared. Some people used it because they like the previews or need the fulltext search, which are useful and fine features. I never used it, but I understand how some people would be pissed off at its disappearance.

  • Jerónimo Barraco M.

i just noticed it brings some problem with hidpi on linux https://forums.opera.com/discussion/comment/15187480#Comment_15187480

  • Peter Henkel

And STILL no persistent pinned tabs. How long do I need to be waiting before I can FINALLY switch to Opera? A century?!

    • http://www.facebook.com/hector.maciasayala Hector Macias Ayala

      And smooth scrolling.

      • Lacedaemon

I think adding –enable-smooth-scrolling in the shortcut path is the only temporary way for it, then again you have to go to the mouse options to configure scrolling speed :/

        • http://www.facebook.com/hector.maciasayala Hector Macias Ayala

How do you do that for superbar items? I dont want no icons in my desktop.

          • Lacedaemon

Add it to the shortcut path like you did it for single process running.

          • http://www.facebook.com/hector.maciasayala Hector Macias Ayala

Once again it’s a user and not a Opera developer who provides a solution, thank you so much. And it works in Windows too.

  • Denyer

If I visit opera://bookmark-importer/ I get a “page not found”, where should one find the bookmark importer?

Also is there a means to view a list of opera:// links ? Cheers!

  • Reuni

I just got update and my opera crashed because of this extension:
    https://addons.opera.com/ru/extensions/details/gmail-notifier

    • http://www.opera.com/ Grzegorz Miazga

We have this issue logged as DNA-24569 and already fixed internally.

  • http://vinczej.blogspot.hu vinczej

By me crashes and reopens Opera frequently. But I detected the problem only on my Windows XP. On Windows7 works similar Opera environment without crash.

  • Mayhem

Lost “Opera” button after update. Ubuntu 14.04

    • NoName

I wish that bug(feature) was on Windows 😉

    • Mateusz Stachowski

You lost the button but now how normal menu. In Ubuntu 14.04 LTS it will be either global menu or LIM (Locally Integrated Menu).

I’m sure this was intentionall change and it sure is a welcome one.

      • Arjan van Leeuwen

        That’s exactly what happened 🙂

  • ouzowtf

Icons in bookmark bar are now distorted when the bookmarks have no name. Looks normal when you set a name again.

    • Marcin Mitek

      DNA-24581, known issue.

      • ouzowtf

        Thx for info 🙂

  • pekikuubik

So… How do I create nested folders in the bookmarks manager? I mean, it’s pretty, but so far it still screams “My First Bookmarks Manager” to me.

    • Herr Pietrus

It’s not as bad as “my first manager” but you’re right, there is no convenient way to create folder inside another one… 🙂

    • Wojciech Kostoglu

You can put a folder inside other folder.
Click „My Folders” header in opera://bookmarks and you will be able to manage your folders.

      • pekikuubik

So it’s intentionally counterintuitive to prevent confused people from accidentally touching things they’re not supposed to. Sigh.

        • ma_t14

No it’s not intentionally anything, it’s just not complete yet

          • pekikuubik

You never know with Opera these days. Could be intentional dumbing down or an incomplete feature they’re going to scrap again in a couple of versions.

Even the stable stream doesn’t mean you’re getting a product with complete features anymore. It just means it’s the tested build of the latest (but now a couple of versions old) alpha.

      • Manuel

Okay, but does not work with the bookmarks bar folders. I have to “build” up my folders and than move them to the bookmarks bar to have sub-folders.

  • helsten2

I get random NSL on Bookmark pages …
    Win7x64

  • Robert

I had a problems with automatic updates from Opera Dev 24. Update was downloaded but not installed. I got message to restart Opera, but no changes after restart. Then I decided to install Opera Dev from start, but now sync doesn’t work. Sync stuck on “signing in…” window, and when I login using Opera account only what I get is blank page: https://auth-test.opera.com/account/access-token?userid=… etc.

  • Ksnoo

I love to see how old things like the bookmark manager are coming back but in a new way and modern ui. Thanks for that!

Stash as a unique and also very useful feature should be brought back. Stash is a great feature in certain scenarios.

    • Rodders

Use ‘Unsorted Bookmarks’ as ‘Stash’. Simple.

      • Ksnoo

No, l need the typical display of stash. However, i have no problem if the stash functionality would be integrated into bookmarks manager. Why not a third type of view beside of list and tiles?

        • Rodders

If you select list view then the unsorted bookmarks are presented in an identical fashion to stash (at least the way I used stash). I’m amazed at the love shown now for stash that was never displayed in this blog before!

          • Ksnoo

But not in the way i used stash: you cannot increase the size but you just have a simple list view.

          • Rodders

With respect I suggest you ask too much, stash is by default something temporary, the list view in my opinion is more than enough for links of this nature.

          • Ksnoo

The opera team didn’t ask you at the beginning of opera if they should implement stash and they probably won’t ask you if they should bring it back. So thanks for your opinion and your advice! 🙂

          • taneli

Sure they won’t be asking for it, but they do seem to read the feedback that people give, not always making anything that fits everyones personal needs, but do take the comments into account.

          • http://www.tbochenek.de thorbenb

Yes, we read the comments here. And yes, we cannot take everything into account, but if you suggest something that makes sense and we didn’t think about yet, there is a good chance we will do it eventually.

That said, comments like “bring stash back” are quite useless. Unless you tell us why you want it back and what you used it for that you can’t use the bookmark manager for, how could we improve something?

Mistakes happen, if you think we made one, point it out! But give us details: Why is it worse now? What problems did you try to solve and our UI didn’t help you with? How could we improve?
And don’t be unhappy if we think you made a mistake to think we made a mistake 😉

          • Petter Nilsen

One use case that has been mentioned here is that stash offers a large sized preview which BM does not offer.

          • Corzo

Exactly, because takes the screenshot where you left, thanks for the point of view.

          • Ra-Mon

Stash allow search in “stashed” pages content ! Bookmarks manager allow very poor search : no description, no tags… and Opera 15+ don’t allow full text indexing of visited pages…

          • http://www.tbochenek.de thorbenb

There will be a content based search in the bookmarks manager eventually

          • Ra-Mon

            Cool !
Please also save description, if provided by site META, in bookmark too, and allow search in it 🙂

          • Rodders

            You’re welcome!

          • Lacedaemon

Yes, this is ridiculous. There is no way someone would ask for a crippled, useless version of Bookmarks (Stash) if Bookmarks would already exist in Opera 15. Can you imagine that? “Heeey Bookmarks suck!!! Please give me just an unsorted list where I can turn big thumbnails to huge previews!!!”

Anyone… please can you tell me what the means of “Sugar bowl”?

A new function or features from Opera?

  • rufu2

With this version (USB install on Win7 x64) the mouse cursor often switches from the usual hand/finger to a yellow “I” with red serifs which is extremely hard to see. It seems to be more likely when the mouse is over some text and less likely when it’s in the empty background.
Often, but not always, this is combined with Opera falling asleep for a few seconds: The mouse pointer doesn’t move, and keystrokes don’t appear at once.

    • rufu2

hmm, now I have that behaviour even after closing O25. So it looks like I’ve got some other problem 😉

  • Herr Pietrus

You should set constant order of suggested thumbnails in adding bookmark menu… E.g: first – favicon, second – whole website thumbnail, third – text label and then all pictures found on the website.

  • Wando Schneider

A small bug: when opera don’t know the total size of a download (I don’t know in what conditions this happens), the download indicator doesn’t show the green circle around the icon, indicating there is a download in progress.

  • BS-Harou

Please remove the stash. I really don’t see a difference between it and bookmarks folder called “Stash”. Especially since bookmarks have preview now as well.

    • Leonardo Gomes

There is no Stash. Stash is now bookmarks.

      • BS-Harou

I was replying to all the people that want stash back. (Technically the Stash is still in Opera so I used “remove” instead of “dont’t bring back” 😛 )

        • Leonardo Gomes

          Ah, right. 🙂

    • Samara

Yeah, Stash is now implemented in Bookmark-Manager.
      Maybe Opera should make an folder in BM with the name “Stash” (;

But who knows, there sure still some people who uses the Screenshots.

    • Ra-Mon

Text content of stashed pages is indexed and can be searched ! BM don’t allow that…

      • BS-Harou

Ok, that is a good point. Although I wonder how many people actually used that. Perhaps many, I have no idea, but I personally always used stash just as a read-later list and only rarely (and only for title search).

Find in page isn’t working properly. I’m trying to search on the comments of “Discover” (I expand the comments section to show all the 373), and Find show me 21 results. Using the nav arrows, doesn’t jump to next match, and if I want to get back, it shows a negative result (image bellow).

    • NoName

Yea. Search in Opera and Chrome is broken after DOM changes in some cases. It’s really annoying.

      • Wando Schneider

I’m note sure. I ran the same test on Chrome Beta, and work as expected.

        • NoName

Chrome still has highlighting issues. If you search first, then change the DOM (load more comments), and then search more with F3, the highlighting does not exist on new content (does not happen all the time).

Opera does this as well, but does also seem to have counting issues.

          • Wando Schneider

You’re Right. But in my first post, I loaded all the comments, then search… and don’t work.

  • Samara

Love the new start page (:

Are you plan to make a real side bar for the new start page which opens by dragging the mouse pointer to the edge of the screen ?

    What is about bookmarks ?
It would be better if it would slide in the screen like Stash & Discover.

Side bar which opens by dragging the mouse pointer + bookmarks slide window = perfection (:

    • Herr Pietrus

No… please we should copy maxthon even if it was better than new Opera for very very long time 🙂

  • Vorpal

Ok then. Why we need the speed dial when a folder named “speed dial” in bookmarks is the same and even better? Maybe you should combine bookmark manager and speed dial together? Just display “speed dial” folder of bookmarks by default when you open it.

If I remember right the initial plan of Opera 15 sounds like “nobody need bookmarks because we have the speed dial”. So why we need both at once?

    • reesmichael1

If I remember right the initial plan of Opera 15 sounds like “nobody need bookmarks because we have the speed dial”.

That’s not really what it was. It was more like, “Well, there are two use cases for bookmarks: saving something to look at it later (and then deleting it) and storing something permanently. Let’s break up those two use cases into two different places: Stash and Speed Dial, respectively.” It was an interesting idea, and it would be nice if they kept Stash around with the new bookmarks manager because Stash is very good at meeting its intended use case.

However, even if your statement was true, you can’t use a view that the Opera developers had well over a year ago to undermine what they’re doing now. If nobody needed bookmarks, the poor developers wouldn’t have had to suffer through the tens (if not hundreds) of thousands of comments pleading for bookmarks.

(With that said, I would be interested in exploring the idea of merging the two and simply showing the “Speed Dial” folder on a new tab.)

    • Herr Pietrus

Totally disagree. Firstly because bookmark manager page will not look and behave exactly like current SD page
For me totally ridiculous idea. It’s better to remove stash if we must remove something

    • ryofurue

Without removing the speed dial or stash, Opera could combine all three features under “bookmarks”, where the speed dial and the stash are merely special “views” of bookmarks folders. For example, when you bookmark a page under the “Speed Dial” folder of the bookmarks tree, the page would automagically appear in the speed dial.

  • Em-a-il

I really like the new desigh of the start page.

Two things to make it better:

    1) Clicking on the bookmarks-button on the left side should open the bookmarks-page in the same page and not open a new page instead.

    2) There is a problem with the background of folders. http://i.imgur.com/fzVOCha.png

The black background should not cover the page but only the space with the dotted line.

    • Nekomajin43

      +1 for the first!

    • Sidney Moraes

I agree with you in both 🙂

    • escruting

Yeah, it should open on the same page AND maintain the left panel with the speed dial and discover buttons. This would ensure a great navigation and flow design.

      • Herr Pietrus

Don’t you think that navigation buttons and folders list would take too much space then? Even on modern panoramic screens?

I think that they would give us drop-down menu on main bar for quick opening bookmarks and manager as it is for more advanced operations (editing, searching, deleting etc)

    • Lacedaemon

And Stash/Bookmarks should be placed underneath Speed Dial instead of that annoying Discover… or at least the option to drag & put them the way you desire.

  • Rinne Tensei

Opera 25 rendered the “Trending Now” on yahoo like this (Red Circle).

  • http://www.facebook.com/hector.maciasayala Hector Macias Ayala

Making a browser that needs a Quad-core to run and more than 500 MB of RAM should be considered pro climate change, and against our planet.

    • Lacedaemon

      Very true indeed.

  • http://www.facebook.com/hector.maciasayala Hector Macias Ayala

Setting experimental start-page and bookmarks managers as start up pages, I get a blank page for the manager, ’til I reload.

  • Stve

Icons on the bookmark bar are messed up if there is no text.
Opera Turbo problem unable to access some sites.
Love the new start page & bookmark manager hope you get it working with the Stash

    • Stve

added a picture but it vanished when posting ?

      • ayespy

Devs are aware of it. It’s being tracked as a bug.

  • Wando Schneider

I’m having trouble with the Discover. The content doesn’t load… I let a tab open for 2 hours, tried to reload several times… but nothing. Someone experienced the same issue?

  • ayespy

K, so, ennyway, I have this bookmark to the state Board of Osteopathic Medicine. My own shorthand for this is BoOM and, when there’s just a little favicon and my own text label, I find it quickly and don’t mistake it for anything else.

In the new bookmark manager, there is a huge colored square labeled “k3systems.” This is obviously a domain owned by the private contractor who runs the state’s website for the Board of Osteopathic Medicine, but when I see it, I go, “WTF?!?!” because k3systems DOESN’T MEAN ANYTHING to me. Then I read my own little tiny text label below it, and I go, “Oh.”

Either a preview of the page or my own text label splashed across the sqare, or a site logo, (favicon) if any, would be more useful to me than an obscure domain name. Just sayin’…

In the alternative, one could provide the option, like in Windows Explorer, to look at the list of bookmarks in “list view,” and those of us who have no particular use for big ol’ colored squares could use that in the Manager.

    • Dmitry Kirin

Same thoughts exactly. My SD page looks like this tile insanity.

      • Inquisitor

Looks more like a “Slow Dial’ than a ‘Speed Dial’.

Using the SD as a bookmarks depository is a contradictio in terminis.

        • Dmitry Kirin

In the normal SD page, I work with this quite normally. I visually remember where everything is, with a slight help of seeing the titles. But yeah, I admit I ought to clean up a bit. 🙂

    • Rodders

Er, don’t know about you guys but I have everything in the new Opera bookmark manager in ‘list view’ already because the option is clearly visible. Too much moanin’, too much trollin’…

      • ayespy

I see my mistake. I did not interpret the “hamburger menu” symbol to mean “list view.” This is an interface option (little squares vs little lines) which I have only noticed on my cell phone, and which didn’t mean anything to me until you claimed “clearly visible,” which got me looking and testing.

For someone who’s been using similar-looking desktop interfaces since Christ was a corporal, as I have, it does not jump out at me and say “choose list or grid!”

        • Rodders

Well I’m old enough to remember when the Sinclair Spectrum was first released and be amazed by it, which was when Christ was still a Private!

          • ayespy

Sinclair! My brother brought one of those home from the UK sometime in the late 70’s. That and a home-built Heathkit were the first personal computing devices in our home – before we stepped up to the “modern” Apple II, for which we wrote Applesoft programs to do the mailing and billing for our home-based business. Those were the days…

If the (sprocket-fed dot matrix) printer you bought wasn’t compatible with your machine, you adjusted the DIP swtiches until it was.

            Fun times.

    • Herr Pietrus

That’s the problem only with already existing bookmarks collections 🙂 while adding new one you can choose between picture and text label…
But that’s why thumbnails should be loaded by default for imported bookmarks 🙂
Ad as I’ve said while adding new one there should be fixed order of possible pictures with thumbnail on first place and maybe first picture on the site (possibly the logo) on second or third place

      • ayespy

I see. I’ll have to add a bookmark, and see how that works.

  • oCircuit

Now i tested the new start page few hours and like i said before, the start page looks very cool.
But i think the side bar should be on the right side, otherwise it will be very exhausting with the time, in my opinion the O-menu should be on the right side too.
It is much more pleasant and does not interrupt the workflow.

All the extensions already there, so the download manager.

    • Rodders

No way anything on the right side, forget it!!

      • x a

I even dearly miss* i [+]-button to open a new tab on the left hand side, because I tend to focus my work on the tabs further left on the tab bar.

(That way the [+] wouldn’t float and be static in a “well known location”, which would make it easier to hit.)
        __
        * A bookmarklet and the bookmarks bar make a bad auxiliary solution.

    • ahoj1234

      1) its not native to me. Left is good.
      2) try windows 8.1 and than tell me. Right side is mostly “reserved” for windows itself and navigation there would be painful.

  • God

    Why? :c

    • Petter Nilsen

We don’t bundle a separate h264 codec like Chrome is doing, so you need Vista or higher on Windows to get that.

      • God

        But i have Win7.

        • Petter Nilsen

Weird, even VP8 is disabled. I’m on Win7 too and it looks fine here. Something else might be interacting with Opera on your computer. Capture software? I see there’s a toolbar overlay.

          • God

On dev build it looks much better. I think may be it’s just bug from early version of Opera (15), which i always update, but never install “on clean”.

          • Petter Nilsen

Oh, this is for discussing dev builds so I generally assumed you were running that 🙂

        • Petter Nilsen

But as we have established, not the dev build.

  • Raylan Givens

I’m playing the same video, same resolution on YouTube and both, IE11 and Opera use mp4 format. Can you explain this vast difference in resources? Why Opera need so many resources in order to play it?

  • dflyra

There is a problem with synchronization. The sync process is going on for ever. When I reload the page it says that I’m synchronized and it’s probably true because discus recognizes my nickname. In Opera menu, though, the nickname does not appear and the indication is ‘synchronize’, like the synchronizing process is still on.

One other strange thing:Opera starts either maximized or monitor-centered with a certain size. If I resize the window, work for a while and restart the browser, it does not maintain the size it had before closing and appears with the same size I mentioned before. Can somebody verify it? Is it some flag-setting matter?

    • Leonardo Gomes

There is no relation between sync and your login on Disqus.

And afaik the sync process is constant.

    • Rodders

Yes I can confirm there is a problem with logging-in to sync in this build.

      • Rastislav Švarba

        yup, same here:
        “Signing in…
        Waiting for server response.”

  • taneli

My question last night about opening a youtube link from another site: http://www.opera.com/blogs/desktop/2014/08/opera-developer-25-supports-web-notifications/#comment-1530541430
Apparently it works just fine if you uncheck “Block 3rd party cookies”.
Still works after refreshing the page, even if it is checked.
But you should still serve the login cookies when opening the page?

  • taneli

Still getting this that the browser randomly changes the tab when i press Ctrl+F, can’t find a way to reproduce it, happens so randomly, and not very often, and it’s usually the tab on the left of the active tab it activates when it happens.

  • taneli

This Disqus thingie isn’t even working (atleast not with Opera), doesn’t show new posts usually, or, if it does, when someone has commented on something 500 posts down, it just says “1 comment above”, click it, takes you right back at the top and you need to scroll down every damn post to see where the reply actually is, all the time. Make your own messaging system please, this is just horrid.

    • ingviowarr

      Just press “Sort by Newest”.

But Disqus have three another bugs:
      – Sorting doesn’t remember
      – Buggy Logouts
      – Slow refreshing

      • taneli

Sorting isn’t the problem, it doesn’t show when new comments come, like it did previously (showed “new comments below” and clicking that would take you to the comment), now it just says “one new comment above” (even though it’s somewhere 300 comments down the chain).

    • http://www.facebook.com/hector.maciasayala Hector Macias Ayala

Not to mention the Dash is a joke, when you want to jump to a comment, what you get is click to see more comments at the bottom of the page, and from there you have to find it.

  • ma_t14

It’s funny (or sad) how in the new survey Opera Mail is not even listed under the question, “What other Opera products do you use?”

    • Leonardo Gomes

      Which new survey?

    • ahoj1234

you are right :/ I just fill the survey… but Opera for TV (TV store) isn’t there as well to be fair.
anyway, some questions were silly. Like “ease to use”? Sure it must be easy to use. I don’t wanna use it like DOS but Opera is more than ease to use these days… “dumb” users will never set up anything and other users would have the chance to do so.

      • x a

I agree, that the survey cannot be useful to deduce anything substantial.

Some question/answers are very unclear. “How often do you use Opera for • Music / • Email / •…”. Do they want to know an absolute (“how frequently do specifically turn to Opera to … while at the computer”) or a relative (“how frequently do I … during using Opera”) estimate? That very question is even more vage in its German translation “Wie oft benutzt [D]u Opera für…”.

Then in the levels “of importance”: is “somewhat important” really meant to be less important than “neutral”? (Again in German “einigermaßen wichtig” surely is regarded more important than “egal” which means “indifferent”.) But you won’t know if a candidate is answering assuming certain survey standards or trusting his understanding of language.

Then there answers difficult to evaluate: E.g. I don’t use Opera much for email – not because, let’s say, a built in email client wasn’t important for me, or I did use another browser for emailing purposes, but maybe because I had to resort to an external email application for the very reason M2 is no more. There are of such issues. – But then again I guess you leave the evaluation to professionals and don’t do that by intuition in a lunch break. 😉

        • ahoj1234

true… I mark “never” when asked about reading emails there. Because I use M2 for it. So because of I said “never” they would be like “nice, no need to thing about emails in blink-based Opera” etc…
probably there is no need to comment all of these questions but previous survey was far better I think.

  • ingviowarr

New Start page looks not bad, but need some revision.
Logo and background color generating is surprisingly correct (basically).

    1. The main necessary improvement – ability to specify some extra text manually.

For example, some quads may look the same: quad have general domain picture without any special info about site section/user page/brand/etc.

Or quad have just a picture without any text info (lol).

    2. Think about manual picture or color settings. Would be good in some situations.

    3. Non-English domains represented as ‘abracadabra’.

  • ayespy

    SECURITY ISSUE…

Hate to say this, because it’s actually really handy for me, but insecure as hell. When I close O 25 while one of my confidential data sources with secure login is displaying a page, then when I reopen O 25, there the entire page is again, in all its glory, reloaded from cache. When you close a browser under such conditions it should make you try to log back into the site again after a restart, not show the last secure content that you had up on your screen.

    • blackcoder

Is that also the case if you reload that page or are you then logged out?

If you are logged out then I would guess the site is doing it correctly and we know that Opera is not reloading that tab on startup.

Opera should maybe reload tabs with an address starting with “https”. Nevertheless that would have an impact on startup time. Especially if more sites start to use https [1]. Isn’t the lazy loading a new features since the last one or two versions?

I didn’t tried to reproduce this, so I am just speaking generally.

      [1] http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.de/2014/08/https-as-ranking-signal.html

      • ayespy

The site is doing it correctly. This problem also occurred in versions of Opera 15 and 16, but was corrected. It no longer exists in Opera 23 or 24 – only 25, and has not existed for several versions – Which means it is Opera 25 that is doing it wrong.

    • tarquinwj

Thanks for your report. Please note that if you discover an exploitable security issue, you should report it securely to our bug tracking system:
      https://bugs.opera.com/wizarddesktop/
To protect users from abuse, we ask you not to disclose issues in public places like blogs or forums, until the bug has been fixed.

In this case, this is not a security issue. It relates to privacy (hiding from other trusted users of your computer) not security (protection from remote attackers).

If you want to hide private information, consider using private browsing. If you do not use private browsing or manually delete the private data, the cached page will still be available to other users of your computer account, even if they are not displayed on startup; other users could just look through your cache manually. Untrusted users can also install keyloggers or scrapers to view the pages as they arrive or passwords as you type them. If you really do not trust other users of your computer, use your computer’s accounts features to give them a guest account. Don’t let them use yours.

The behaviour may in fact be intentional – to speed up startup by loading content from cache, rather than from the website. This can make a big difference when you have a lot of tabs open. You can tell Opera not to restore sessions on startup using Opera menu – Settings – Browser – On startup = “Open the start page”. You can also use Opera menu – Settings – Privacy & security – Cookies = “Keep local data only until I quit my browser”, to make it log out from all websites when you close Opera (the cache will still remain, of course, unless you use private browsing).

      • ayespy

OK. In technicalese, it’s a “privacy” issue. In my business it is a “security,” a “licensing” and a “money” issue. If it is known that a broswer displays one of these pages on opening, that browser will not be ALLOWED to be used in my place of business, on penalty of termination. Why?

Because “data security” is a critical aspect of our trade. We have to have a license to operate, and we have to license access to these websites from data brokers. The data includes personal (and, yes, *private*) information that it is illegal to access without a proper purpose under both the terms of our licenses, and under federal law. We must be able to demonstrate that it is not possible for a person who does not have proper clearance, to obtain data that we have made use of for a permitted and licensed purpose. If someone gains access to data they are not supposed to have, damage can be done, and we can be sued.

When I mentioned this issue many builds ago, it was gone in the next build, as was only proper. If it is “on purpose” from a technical standpoint, there are sound reasons why it should NOT be; and why, if it remains so, Opera and any browser that does it will be banned from use in my business and throughout my trade and related trades – for, in our terms, “security” reasons.

But rest assured, if I become aware of a browser exploit in the future which is in technical or coding terms a “security” issue (like someone can gain control of your browser or your machine, through an accidental back door) I will report it privately as a bug.

Irrespective of whether this issues is “security” or “privacy,” it is bad policy and bad business.

  • Radik Gradenko

Opera is advancing at a good pace, but I have quite a few usability suggestions. If you fixed these, I’d recommend Opera over any other browser anytime. Just my 2 cents of course:

    – The bookmark manager is shaping up very nicely, but please, give us one-click access to bookmarks (Ctrl+Shift+B is acceptable, but a button would still be nice)

    – Under bookmarks, if I switch from table view to list view, it only applies to the current folder. So if I change my mind, I gotta go through all the folders, which is extremely tedious.

    – The download pane’s Clear button currently closes the pane immediately when pressed. I think it’d be better not to close it upon Clear because a) it’d give the user a visual confirmation that the list has indeed been cleared b) there may be downloads in progress which a user may still be interested in. But because pressing the Clear button also causes the position of the button itself to change, I think you should also move the Clear and Show more buttons to the top of the pane to avoid this side effect.

    – Still downloads – If I wanna cancel a download, I gotta go to Show more, then cancel it there. I think cancelling is a quite common task so there should be a way to cancel it right from the pane instead of the dedicated window.

    – You seriously need to fix the alignment of the Opera button. This is what it looks like on all my Windows 8.1 comps: http://imgur.com/4tprwCY I can’t believe noone has noticed this yet and thinks it’s fine this way. Maybe it looks better on Win7 or something, but man, it looks lame.

    – Opera needs a bookmark importer. A settings (autofill, history, passwords etc) importer would be even better, but a bookmark importer is a musthave imo. Currently I have a sh*tload of bookmarks, well organized, in Firefox, and I really don’t feel like moving them one by one. I think this would greatly help newcomers.

    – Switching tabs: seriously, why is this such an issue? This has been like this since forever, but I really do think it needs to be addressed. Currently the ONLY way I know to switch tabs is Ctrl+Tab and Ctrl+Switch+Tab. Now it’s already a pain that going backwards is THREE buttons but it’s even worse coz they’re all on the left edge of the keyboard, so I gotta use 3 fingers on my left hand to go backwards. This is extremely inconvenient. Both Chrome and Firefox has the Ctrl+PgUp and Ctrl+PgDown shortcuts ALONG with Opera’s shortcuts, so why can’t Opera have those, too? They’re much easier to use coz they require just 1 finger on my left hand and 1 on my right hand. So much smoother.

    – Still switching tabs: Ctrl+N (where N = 1..9) is another incredibly useful feature of all the other browsers (yes, even IE has it), I know it’s somehow wired to speed dial but can’t you add an option to use it for tab switching instead? I’d be more than grateful if you did this.

    – Tab groups: this one’s self-explanatory, this is for organizing tabs based on their topic. It’s a must have for anyone who has more than 20 tabs. I think the way Firefox implemented it is quite good, but ANYTHING would be better than the current “open a new browser window for that” way.

Again, this is only my opinion. I do hope you consider at least some of these. Thanks fellas, and keep up the good work!

    • Leonardo Gomes

I don’t see any major problem. Could be better? Maybe but it’s nothing that should be put in high priority.

Afaik Opera already imports data from Opera presto and/or from the default browser.

And what if there are more than 9 tabs opened?

      – Still downloads – If I wanna cancel a download, I gotta go to Show more, then cancel it there. I think cancelling is a quite common task so there should be a way to cancel it right from the pane instead of the dedicated window.

Afaik you can do it from the download list, just click ion the pause button.

      • Radik Gradenko

“I don’t see any major problem. Could be better? Maybe but it’s nothing that should be put in high priority.”

I didn’t say it’s high priority at all. Obviously this thing bothers me the least. I’m just saying that it’s the first thing a user faces and it’s been like this for more than a year. Also it should be quite trivial to fix, so I find it strange that it still hasn’t been addressed.

“Afaik Opera already imports data from Opera presto and/or from the default browser.”

Well, then, it definitely doesn’t work for me 🙂

“And what if there are more than 9 tabs opened?”

Oldtime Opera users always come up with this question, and the answer is that nothing special happens, you still use it like you would otherwise: quick-switch to one of the first 9 tabs. Obviously for the rest you’ll still have go up one by one, but this doesn’t at all negate its helpfulness for the first 9 tabs. I’m not gonna do complex calculations as for how many keypresses it can save for you daily, but it’s a hell of a lot.

A very basic example: you have 15 tabs, you’re on the 13th tab and you wanna go to the 4th tab. With Ctrl+Tab it’s 1 control presses and 6 tab presses, that’s 7 in total. With Ctrl+N it’s just 2 presses (1 Control, 1 “4”), 33% of the original number.

Say you wanna go from the 4th to the 13th again, that’s 1 Ctrl press, 1 Shift press and 6 Tab presses, 8 in total with Ctrl+Shift+Tab. With Ctrl+N, it’s 1 Ctrl press, then 1 “1” press to go to the first tab, then 1 Shift press, then 3 tab presses, 6 in total, still 75% of the original. So if you come to think of it, even in the worst case it can’t be more presses than with Ctrl+Tab (because it’s also 2 presses like Ctrl+Tab) while in the average case it’s definitely fewer, often much fewer presses. So it’s a net win to have it. It’s not like you’d be forced to use it anyway, so I really don’t get this opposition…

“Afaik you can do it from the download list, just click ion the pause button.”

Right, that pauses the download. I was talking about cancelling it.

I don’t see any major problem. Could be better? Maybe but it’s nothing that should be put in high priority.

I didn’t say it’s high priority at all. Obviously this thing bothers me the least. I’m just saying that it’s the first thing a user faces and it’s been like this for more than a year. Also it should be quite trivial to fix, so I find it strange that it still hasn’t been addressed.

But – I’m genuinely interested – what is the glitch you spot there?

          • Radik Gradenko

            See my response above.

          • x a

Ah, thanks, I see, thanks for the clarification.

But I don’t agree. As I perceive it, the Opera-Menu button is not supposed do be just-another-button in the top line, aligning with other content there. It’s a special entity lurking over the top of the window; think of it as an earmark or a paper clip…

          • Radik Gradenko

It’s not about aligning with any other content, it’s about having consistently wide borders, i.e. identical vertical AND horizontal separator stripe.

        • Leonardo Gomes

“Afaik you can do it from the download list, just click ion the pause button.”

Right, that pauses the download. I was talking about cancelling it.

There is no cancel/stop button. Clicking on the “X” is similar to the old “remove from the list” in Opera Presto.

Well, i’ve never noticed it. 🙂 And i still don’t see any problems with the button.

There is, mate! But it can only be found on the dedicated Downloads page, not in the popup. See: http://imgur.com/yV0f9dR

The problem with the button is visual inconsistency. Compare these 2 images and you’ll know what I’m talking about (the 2nd one is a mockup I made in Paint): http://imgur.com/QdA1rbp,ZQPK5tY#0

      > Under bookmarks, if I switch from table view to list view, it only applies to the current folder. So if I change my mind, I gotta go through all the folders, which is extremely tedious.

Would a setting for the default help? I think it’s actually quite handy that you can choose list view for folders that contain pages with meaningless images and grid view for when you have nice images that tell you what you are looking at. Finder on mac basically does the same.

      • Inquisitor

More often than not, one may have meaningless images AND nice images in the same folder. 😀
An optional default setting for list view, tile view and mixed would be nice! I understand that all those image tiles are handy for touch screens, but for an old-fashioned guy like me who prefers a mouse cursor, list views are much easier and quicker to work with.

      • Radik Gradenko

You mean like there’s a global default but I can still change individual folders? Sure, I can live with that. Though that raises the question, how does one return to the global setting once modified it. Maybe something like this: a global toggle, then for each folder a checkbox like “inherit settings”. Once unchecked, another toggle becomes enabled where you can specify the per-folder setting. If you check the box again, it becomes greyed-out and the global setting gets applied again. Or something like this.

      • Nekomajin43

How about a solution to apply changes to the current folder and all of its subfolders? I don’t know whether it is the best solution, but it definitely worth some thinking.

    • http://www.lalaurette.com.ar/ Sebastián Lalaurette

“(Ctrl+Shift+B is acceptable, but a button would still be nice)”

Bookmark the address opera://bookmarks in your Bookmarks bar. Click on it to open the manager. Problem solved.

      • Radik Gradenko

Except if I don’t have the bookmark bar enabled.

        • http://www.lalaurette.com.ar/ Sebastián Lalaurette

Well, you have a one-click access to them anyway, although it requires some mouse wiggling (there is a “Bookmarks” submenu in the main Opera menu). Is that convenient enough?

          • Radik Gradenko

So you mean one-click access by 2 clicks? 🙂 Whatever.

          • http://www.lalaurette.com.ar/ Sebastián Lalaurette

If it was a button on the toolbar, it would be two clicks as well: one for the button and other for the bookmark you want. If that is “one-click”, then this is as well. If the menu system is “two clicks”, then the button is also “two clicks”. Are you just trolling?

          • Radik Gradenko

            “Are you just trolling?”

I might as well ask the same question. I asked for one-click access to bookmarkS.

In Firefox I click on the Bookmarks button on the menu bar and there I have my bookmarks. That’s one click.

In Opera I gotta open the Speed Dial (i.e. new tab) page, then click on Bookmarks, that’s two clicks.

Obviously browsing through the bookmarks is a different story, I didn’t think it’s possible to do that without interaction, but thanks for implying I want a mindreading browser.

          • Radik Gradenko

In fact, I’ve just realized that bookmarks aren’t even in the Opera menu after all. If opera://flags/#bookmarks is disabled, there’s a Stash entry between Speed dial and Discover, but if I enable it, there’s no entry between the two.

          • http://www.lalaurette.com.ar/ Sebastián Lalaurette

            Look harder.

          • Radik Gradenko

Okay, for the sake of inconsistency it’s not replacing the Stash button (like on the Speed Dial page), but it’s been put in a totally different place instead. I got it.

My point stands, still, it isn’t any more convenient than going through the Speed Dial page or Ctrl+Shift+B.

          • http://www.lalaurette.com.ar/ Sebastián Lalaurette

It’s been put near the top because it’s a very often used feature and because it’s better that way if you have a long list of bookmarks.

And it might not be more convenient than Ctrl+Shift+B or the Speed Dial, but it’s certainly more useful, because you cannot use bookmarklets via those methods.

          • Radik Gradenko

Well, I’m pretty sure most users’ biggest concern is bookmarklets, now it’s better, thanks.

    • L33t4opera

Currently the ONLY way I know to switch tabs is Ctrl+Tab and Ctrl+Switch+Tab. Both Chrome and Firefox has the Ctrl+PgUp and Ctrl+PgDown shortcuts

      Hi Radik, if you would like, you can easy rebind it, just follow the steps: 1. Close the Opera, go to the Opera’s profile folder (you can find the path in O-Menu>About Opera>Paths>Profile), and open the “Preferences” file in your text editor, then edit the first 10 lines, as below:{
      "Keybindings": {
      "Basic": {
      "CycleToNextTab": [ "Ctrl+Tab", "Ctrl+PageUp" ],
      "CycleToPreviousTab": [ "Ctrl+Shift+Tab", "Ctrl+PageDown" ]
      },
      "Settings": {
      "AdvancedEnabled": true
      }
      },
(the value for the “AdvancedEnable” can be “false”, if you don’t use adv keybindings). 2. Save the changes, relaunch the Opera.

      • Radik Gradenko

Thanks for the suggestion! Unfortunately it doesn’t work as expected 🙁 Ctrl+PageUp only works when the current tab is scrolled to the top while Ctrl+PageDown only works when the current page is on the bottom. Until then, it simply ignores the Ctrl button and just scrolls the current page as normal.

(As a sidenote, the expected behavior is reversed, i.e. ctrl+pgup for the previous tab and ctrl+pgdown for the next)

        • L33t4opera

Weird, I checked it again, and here it works on both: Windows7, and Linux boxes without problems. Could you check, whether the “opera://flags/#activation-order-tab-cycling” flag is enabled? If that is the case, then disable it, and relaunch the Opera, and see if it help.

If you are on Mac, you can try another (default – no need to rebind it) keybindings for this feature:
          “CycleToNextTab”: [“Command+Alt+Right”],
          “CycleToPreviousTab”: [“Command+Alt+Left”].

        • L33t4opera

I noticed, that there are another two keybindings: “PageLeft” : [“PageUp+Ctrl”], “PageRight” : [“PageDown+Ctrl”].
          It seems, that they can block the assignment of new keyboard shortcuts in your case (I wonder why it works without issues in my case). One more try – could you please edit the Preferences file, as shown below, and see if it helps?{
          "Keybindings": {
          "Basic": {
          "CycleToNextTab": [ "Ctrl+PageUp" ],
          "CycleToPreviousTab": [ "Ctrl+PageDown" ],
          "PageLeft": [ "Ctrl+Shift+PageUp" ],
          "PageRight": [ "Ctrl+Shift+PageDown" ]
          },
          "Settings": {
          "AdvancedEnabled": true
          }
          },

          • Radik Gradenko

Nope, it has the exact same effect.

  • Boris

Please make it possible to select and move multiple bookmarks (in new bookmark manager) to a certain folder at a time

  • http://www.lalaurette.com.ar/ Sebastián Lalaurette

So I was right when I said that the bookmark manager looked like it was about to be integrated with the Speed Dial. Maybe a total fusion is on the way? Would be cool. (I mean, you go to the start page and get the Speed Dial folder open with all your bookmarks and extensions –but on the left is the menu with all the other folders. That would be the next logical step, I think.)

Thank you so much to all the devs… I nearly fainted when I read the changelog and saw about four zillion bookmark-related changes. 😉

    • Inquisitor

For ease of use and convenience, bookmarks should be accessible from whatever page you’re on, and not exclusively from the Speed Dial.

      • http://www.lalaurette.com.ar/ Sebastián Lalaurette

But they are! You now have a “Bookmarks” menu that you can access from the Opera button… Also the Bookmark bar, of course.

        • Rodders

Thing is the bookmark window in menu is huge (certainly with my unsorted urls which have long titles). Folders in this window are placed at the far-right end which for me is mid-screen! Not convenient. The O menu bookmark window needs to have a restriction on its width, in fact it should be quite narrow.

          • Inquisitor

It looks quite allright here. I just wish they added two extra options to the right-clich context menu:

            -Add new folder

            -Add new bookmark

          • Rodders

That’s because you have no unsorted bookmarks (stash!). Stick a few of those in with long title names and you will see something different. Of course if you edit every title to be short this is not an issue, but that creates extra work for the user. My screen currently…

          • Guest

            pic…

          • Rodders

Mods delete the above guest post please (and then this one). Really Discus is terrible.

        • Inquisitor

I know that. Just wondering why there should be a bookmarks button on the SD, if you can access your bookmaks from the O-menu. 😀

          • http://www.lalaurette.com.ar/ Sebastián Lalaurette

Because the Speed Dial items *are* bookmarks and it’s more natural to have everything integrated? SD will become (I hope) kind of a “main” bookmarks folder from which you can then change to the others.

  • http://www.lalaurette.com.ar/ Sebastián Lalaurette

… aaaaand Vimeo now works! Thanks for that as well. 🙂

  • http://ralphchastain.com/ Ralph Chastain

I wish I could convert my extensions etc from Opera to Opera Next/Developer so that I don’t have to re-download them all. Thanks for your hard work!

Is there somebody who can work with new Operas (>12.17) when desktop computer is overloaded?

I have desktop station with Intel Core i7 (Win7 used as 3D rendering station).
I can NOT use opera browser when a render process is running (the render process takes 100% of all 7 CPUs Cores).

    – The old Opera (=12.17) works perfect in this situation, but new Operas – NOT.
    – Maxthon browser works perfect in this situation, but new Operas – NOT.
    – IE browser works perfect in this situation, but new Operas – NOT.
    – Chrome browser load pages, but it is quite slow (almost like operas >= O19 upto <O24), but the newest Operas – NOT.

The reason of this is maybe because the opera child processes have low priority level (now it is Background). Few versions ago it was Below normal level (but it also does not work well).

What can I do to use new Opera in this situation?

Is there a opera:flags to fix child operas processes priority to Normal level or I should use other browsers that works (like old opera, Maxthon or IE)?

THAT IS AWFUL PROBLEM REPORTED FEW TIMES
Look like new opera could work only when everything else is stopped.

    • taneli

Yeap, mentioned about the very same problem a few times before, pretty frustrating when you can’t surf the web while rendering. Opera 21 is still working, 22, 23, 24, 25, nope.

Not just 3d rendering, anything that uses a bit more thant normal the cpu or hdd makes opera so unstable. Just starting utorrent, or unpacking a rar file, or even having more thant normal number of tabs with hd videos on them, opera is very unstable and slow to respond.

I think it would be nice if we had the option to display the name of a tile (link/ bookmark folder) on the SD permanently, instead of it showing up only when the cursor is placed over it, as it is now.
Many tiles show the same picture, and at present, it’s more like a “Guess the Picture” game!

    • Rodders

I think they will have to provide an option like that. The tiles as they are look great but don’t convey enough information, especially when you have a few links relating to the same website and as a result the tiles all look the same.

      • Inquisitor

The fact that there are no subfolders anymore doesn’t help, either. All the links from a main folder are now displayed in one grid – creating a dazzing, confusing display of colors and symbols. It may look impressive from a distance, but it’s an overkill, really. Not user-friendly at all.

As I’ve said before, SD and Bookmarks are not an ideal marriage – at least not for me.

For the time bing and for lack of something better, I’ll do with the bookmarks list on the O-menu. 🙁

        • Rodders

You can create sub folders visible in the new manager, though it’s a bit cumbersome to do. This aspect of the tool is still in a primitive state I think, we need to remember this is still a work in progress!

  • IllusionMH

I hope that “nicknames” for bookmarks and ability to choose speed dial presentation as for bookmarks.

  • Rodders

In the new start page it would be cool if the bookmarks could open in the same window as the SD and Discover and the side bar remaining visible, instead of jumping to a new tab without the sidebar, though I guess there may be reasons for things being the way they currently are.

This last update broke SendToKindle extension (It’s extension for chrome, but it worked before this update). Extension works, but it is unable to send the articles due to network error.

Also this release is lot more unstable. Previous version basically never crashed or freezed, this version is crashing almost every day.

    • Marcin Mitek

Previous version advanced to Opera Next 24, it was stable enought to do that. This one is a first developer build with 25 version number, we will be working on it for a while, don’t worry 🙂

      • tikend

Sorry, wasn’t clear enough. I am using linux and previous version was developer 24 build.

        • Marcin Mitek

Right. Well, first builds have their issues. We are updating Dev channel quite often after the initial release, so stay tuned 🙂

I know, just wanted to let you know of the issues 😉

  • voyager75000

I would like to see a feature to change the shortcuts of search engines.

For custom ones, of course, it’s simple. But for the predefined ones, I am really missing it.
    For example:
    – ‘z’ for Amazon is counterintuitive, I would like to change it to ‘a’.

    – for youtube, I would like to use an ‘y’, which is impossible since it’s already occupied by the search for yahoo.

Is this possible or are there any reasons speaking against it?

    • rafaeljvieira

      Hello,

That should be possible in the future, as far as we (the community) know. If you want you can do something now, although there’s no built-in feature to edit the default search engines. Close Opera, look for the resources directory, find a file named “default_partner_content.json” and rename it to something else.
When you open Opera, all the default search engines should be gone and you can add the search engines you want, with any shortcuts you’d like them to have.

      Regards

      • voyager75000

Thanks for that hint. It does work, although after each (even minor) update, all deleted search engines are back in place again. Even worse, conflicted short keys are being reset to the name of their website. With updates occurring about once a week, the level of annoyance is quite equal 😉
So, dear Opera team, please, help us in that matter 😀

  • Lacedaemon

Can’t download anything from your ftp site and auto-update doesn’t work either. Location: Athens, using a mobile internet stick. Other ftp sites like mozila work fine.

how do i bring back speed dial coast? I changed in to show previews in the last version but couldn’t find the option again to revert back

    • Leonardo Gomes

Click on “try new start page”.Coast like icons is for the new start page only.

      • oic

took me a while to figure it out. Actually to see it I had to
opera:flags and find experimental start page and enable it (disabled by default) then go to speed dial page and click on “try out this new start page” on top left corner

  • http://www.facebook.com/hector.maciasayala Hector Macias Ayala

I am absolutely aware this is experimental.

After I enabled the new start page I noticed the flag for coast is gone, I would like to disable coast, because this isn’t helpful at all.

    • Leonardo Gomes

New start page works with coast like icons. The flag was to enable it on regular SD and was removed afaik.

      • http://www.facebook.com/hector.maciasayala Hector Macias Ayala

That sensual and unusable new start page!!

        • NoName

I assume they are gonna provide the same feature as with the new heart menu. Then you can choose a thumbnail if you like.
          Everyone wins!

  • LoverOfLife

I switched to Comodo Dragon, chromium based browser, very fast and stable. I’m happy with my choice and satisfied (for now)

    • Vux777

I have 3 browsers that I use regularly every day… Opera, Chrome and Dragon
I must say, Dragon is by far the smoothest and lightest (by UI responses and page scrolling extensions) browser right now.
Maybe it’s because it runs on Chrome 33.0.1750.152 (very polished)

No blank pages, no choppiness and hiccups, no Google extra s***, extensions/apps works excellent (and I have 18 of them installed), sync…
7-8 months ago, Opera was like that…but with every new build, O gained extra heaviness (in my experience)

      • LoverOfLife

True. I agree 100%. I have tested all major chromium releases (SRware Iron, Coowon, Chromium, Chrome dev, Torch, Yandex) but Comodo is as you said, is smooth, light and fast. I don’t know Opera where is going.. I’m a bit angry about stable version, cause is very unstable, and lacking of simple features like: dragging extensions in custom order, desktop notifications, bookmark manager, stability..

        • Rodders

          Total BS.

          • LoverOfLife

Yes, you’re right. As you said, everything in Opera is “Total BS”

          • Rodders

No, the reference was to your previous ‘input’.

I found few, quite funny bugs:
    1. Enable the “opera://flags/#experimental-start-page” flag, and relaunch the Opera, click on “Try out the new start page”, and go to the address bar:
1.1. enter: opera://discover, press enter – it loads the Stash page,
1.2. enter: opera://stash, press enter – it loads the Discover page,
    2. Enable the second flag: “opera://flags/#bookmarks”, and relaunch the Opera, click on “Try out the new start page”, and go to the address bar:
2.1. enter: opera://discover, press enter – it loads the BM page,
2.2. enter: opera://stash, press enter – it loads the Discover page.

  • Ralf Brinkmann

I don’t like the new start page.Everything looks the same. Only symbols, no more preview of the pages, so I can’t see the current status until I open the page. The previous speed dial page with variable sizes of the preview icons and the possibililty of switching off the big Google search field is better for me. The only wish I have – I repeat it here: It would be nice if I could type the name of a speed dial folder (!) in the combined address-/search bar and then a list of all speed dials (their urls) within this folder should unfold there.

    • Joe Gutiérrez

What’re you talking about? The option to hide the Google search field is still there.

      • Ralf Brinkmann

Yes, but I have only a handful of coloured icons, they look nearly all the same and all the other icons are a simple globe symbol. And it’s ugly.

        • http://www.opera.com/ Grzegorz Miazga

Globe symbol is displayed when thumbnail couldn’t be loaded. We don’t really expect this to be displayed for extended period of time. Should be visible probably just on first load. Could you give us a list of urls for which this happens?

    • Wolf-2

I like the new start page, but I want the previews back (I would prefer if I can choose, which one mostly for every entry). Is this possible?

Is there a possibility to create subfolders?

    • ma_t14

“Only symbols, no more preview of the pages, so I can’t see the current status until I open the page.”

Aren’t speed dial icons static anyway? How can you see the current status (unless you refresh manually)?

      • Ralf Brinkmann

The logos and colorful stylish site adresses in speed dials fields are very helpful for me, much better then screenshots.

But there is one problem: Saved sites from the same platform looking the same wehen Opera generates an own icon.

It needs an additional labeling that we can identify the different sections froms a site, like :forum: :news: :games: :impressum: and so on…….
Apart from that the coast modus and the new start page are top.

This is what’s just happened to me after updating to 25: http://i.imgur.com/7CEfNuD.png

Windows 8.1, Opera 25.0.1583.1. I had two pinned tabs and a lot of ordinary tabs, then I right-clicked the right pinned tab and chose ‘Close tabs to the right’. Some bizarre glitch happened and now the screenshot above is what the contents of the tab looks like, permanently.

Something even more cool is the changes in the Opera are reflected in this buggy tab. For example, if I unpin the buggy tab, it becomes unpinned in the glitched content too.

Can’t reproduce it in another window though =(

Will you readd opera link soon(tm)? That is the feature I’m missing the most from the old Opera. Really enjoyed the way it synced, withouth noticing, and it was available in all instances almost inmediatly. In mobile I keep using the Classic for that reason, but withouth it’s desktop counterpart is a pain…

Speed Dial is useless to you? O.o

  • jason

Get rid of the google search bar. It’s ugly

  • http://www.lalaurette.com.ar/ Sebastián Lalaurette

Well, this is not what I expected in two points:

    1. I have always maintained that one of Opera’s killer features were Speed Dial extensions. I barely have “normal” bookmarks in my Speed Dial –mostly extensions for social networks, weather, alarm. The new start page won’t show them, and the slots are too small anyway. Please don’t retire the “old” Speed Dial. 🙂

    2. I promptly moved my “other” bookmarks to the new “My Folders” area… and lost the possibility to sync them with other browsers or manage them from an extension, because they are outside the “normal” bookmark folders. Xmarks didn’t see them and proceeded to delete them from my list, effectively deleting from all my other browsers. I had to put them back in the “Other bookmarks” area to regain access to the sync and managing from extensions. “My Folders” appears to be a nonstandard bookmark system.

All in all, though, I am very excited about this. And I don’t lose my hope that one of these days we’ll see a bookmark *sidebar* again. 😉

  • Lacedaemon

    So wait a tick…

-Bookmarks is an extension (check task manager) but Stash isn’t

-By the same logic why can’t you create an extension with Mail Client M2+ ? Place it next to Discover, or give an option to disable D.

-If you disable the heart menu while you have Bookmarks enabled , clicking on the heart icon adds a webpage to (the hidden) Stash, in other words there is no way of simply adding the item to the unsorted bookmarks and come back later to put it in the right place.

-GPU hardware acceleration for Vista is definitely off? What should one choose there, leave it as it is or tick #ignore-gpu-blacklist in flags?

  • Inquisitor

Opera Devs, please do something about the horrible font rendering! It’s a disgrace, now!

Example (Windows 7 DPI = 100%, Opera 25 set at page zoom 100%, font size: ‘Normal’:

    • Inquisitor

Oh, I forgot: here’s how it looks in O12:

      • Martin Fiala

What you’re seeing is a difference between Opera 12’s GDI font rendering (which may or may not use ClearType, according to your preference, or be replaced entirely with a customizable font rendering system like MacType) and DirectWrite, the new font rendering technology that sadly has become the de facto standard of font rendering in Windows hardware accelerated browsers.

There’s not much to be done to “fix” DirectWrite from Opera’s side, that’s just how it renders fonts. Any changes in that are up to Microsoft. Opera would have to write an entirely new font rendering system to “fix” it. Like it or not (I don’t, since I’d much rather have either something better or at least GDI with the option of being customized), DirectWrite is now a standard and it’s here to stay.

And as sad as it is, it’s still better than the way Chromium (and Opera 15-24) render fonts.

        • Inquisitor

Thanks! I enabled ‘Disable DirectWrite’, and it looks somewhat better now, but still not as neat and crisp as other browsers like FF or Maxthon.

          • Lacedaemon

Actually, in my case, I have Directwrite enabled since the beginning… without it fonts are too thin and fragile…Apart from that there have been some problems with PDF viewer showing bad fonts when disabled…
Still, Presto Opera had the best fonts. :/

          • Martin Fiala

As far as I’m aware, Firefox has been using DirectWrite by default for a while now, unless you disable HW acceleration or tinker with the advanced config options (there’s a way to get both GDI font rendering and HW acceleration, I’m using it in FF, since I need GDI for MacType functionality). If you disable HW acceleration, then FF fallbacks to GDI font rendering.

DirectWrite rendering in FF should be pretty much identical to DirectWrite rendering in Opera 25. GDI rendering is different from the legacy Chrome font rendering you get when you disable DirectWrite in Opera 25, since Chrome has been doing terrible things to font rendering on Windows for years.

I can’t start Opera Developer anymore, it crashes 2-5 seconds after being launched. Opera attempts to restart itself multiple times (crashing after each attempt). I’m on a x64 Win7 machine, I’ve tried manually installing version 25, but that doesn’t seem to do anything. Any tips on fixing this problem?

    • http://vinczej.blogspot.hu vinczej

This problem is reported by many people, like me, too. I think, this happens because of some extensions.

    • Marcin Mitek

      1. Try to disable/uninstall all Google related extensions.
      2. If it persists – check on clean installation, preferably – USB one.

If the clean one works, then something’s broken in the profile, file an issue in our Bug Wizard and we will reach to you (asking for some files from profile etc.)

  • herrschildkroete

I’m testing any still experimental features with portable 25. Here my currently results: 1. Pin Tab is erased after browser shut down and new start. 2. Browser shut down in modus for Chrome browser is slightly smoother on my system as original one. 3. So far I see DirectWrite Font Rendering, if active, has an astonishing effect for people with or just cast-off its glasses. I tested this with any in bad quality printed file to Pdf and the letters was less frayed on screen when DirectWrite is on. 4. Pdf, which will stored in the new bookmark tool, is not stored there if the file was stored in Stash before (?). 5. I take a Pdf from my desktop and drag and drop into the browser if Pdf tool (experimental) is on. All features in the pop up bar in the right bottom of the PDF-Reader page in well function, but as soon as I close the browser the URL-Link to my Pdf on the desktop is broken now and with a new browser start the Pdf is lost for further reading. Eventually this problem is regarded to point 1 in my list here. But usually with an alternative PDF-Reader Tool found in Extension section (PDF-Viewer by Opera Software, it’s well tool) I set a hook for “Access allowed for Url” and the link is available after the browser is new started. 6. I made an attempt with the new Opera Startpage, but is not really my thing, I hope it will be configurable in future browser for an election before and now. In the new startpage pictures in the container not all visible but the link. Presently startpage is more generous in design. I’m afraid the future design of browser get to many details which counteract for a undisturbed use of the software for Internet enquiry. 7. I miss export and import function in the new bookmark tool for storing my complete bookmarks to my own computer. Not every time the user is synchronise with Opera Server. The idea bookmark tool start button alternatively to display on Stash’s place is usable and a proper design, even so it linkage for the mouse context menu. 8. Extension icons in the address bar should be moveable for organizing it place in the bar for my own purpose.

  • ifragment

I really like the new Opera Startpage.

In little but important details you should make the conscious decision to move away from Chrome and not just using chrome standards:

    A few suggestions:

The zoom buttons in the o-menu are much too small. Look here at firefox, they have the correct size and are comfortable to click. Please realize that in Opera too.

The font in Chrome and Opera is just bad. Here again, Firefox in my opinion makes it better. It is richer and sharper. Here the question arise, can Opera in this regard act independently ?

    The clear browser data circle looks the same as in Chrome 😛 Make an red one out of this. You are Opera (;

    • Inquisitor

I see I’m not the only one who thinks the fonts in Opera Blink are awful. Can Opera change this? Well, they are contributing to the development of the Blink engine, so they could/should have an influence.

      • Lacedaemon

They ‘ve said they will do something about it in the future…

      • ifragment

Oh, the blame lay on my system. Now the font is okay.

  • herrschildkroete

Organise my extension icons in the address bar: This icons sort directly in the bar is lousy in front of the marvellous opera browser design. I think it is more sophisticate sort the icons via extension option section. Here all extensions are display in cards, and this cards will be sort with drag and drop as this is a programmable opportunity, and hence all icons in the address bar will displayed sorted as same as you thought for his own purposes.

  • herrschildkroete

Meanwhile I drank my afternoon weekend coffee and I thought around the new speed dial. So I read there in the ongoing discussion some people have a problem with the novelty. Well the new speed dial has unvarnished historical relations to the good old Opera Browser 12 with its left docked sidebar. Tradition is necessary and remembrance in same, but I think one should the choice let the user, and why not here give him two or three alternative possibilities for his speed dial. He will like it. Personally I like more the present speed dial it is new since browser version 15. It is the same problem as one cut the new stash heart icon and the list behind. Some less complicated knotted people as I am use the browser alternatively on the system for less complicated works as like shopping or reading fifteen garden magazines 🙂 But many people think more details be sophisticated since it seems so incredible clever… My proposal is therefore simple design and sophisticated under the hood.

    • kokolo5

It’s the devloper stream, it’s all – like always – unfinished.
The bookmarks manager will use your theme as the background on the left side where you can see the folder, this yet only works with the standard themes.

And i hope bookmarks manager will use transparent black for the layout, like the new start page. It looks very cool.

I also really hope that a smooth switch to bookmark mangager will be possible, a new tab feels inharmonious.

      • Lacedaemon

“I also really hope that a smooth switch to bookmark mangager will be possible, a new tab feels inharmonious.”

It’s developed as an extension, I don’t think that would be possible :-/ (as Stash works)

        • kokolo5

I thought it will be integrated at the end, mmhh.

      • herrschildkroete

Yes, a smooth switch from bookmark manager return to start page all the same which one. But, I’m not really convinced from the new one, the old or the new start page should be a second choice for different user and the wise to like the browser. – Yes, I see just the theme background on the bookmark manager changes with standard theme and is transparent too. Design is a difficult item…

        • herrschildkroete

Switch from bookmark panel return to main page is, I’m afraid, a late hour good sleep design proposal. 🙂

    • herrschildkroete

Hmm. I think it’s really not a good idea to make the new start page to the only possible one. The open atmosphere and the clear design of the browser (higher vers. 15) takes lasting damage. For me the new planned start page as only one would be the reason to leave the browser and take the product from competitors. It seems me in any cases a great step return to nothing.

  • herrschildkroete

Discover loaded first I use reload button. This is in vers 25 a permanent problem.

  • herrschildkroete

Is ASLR or DEP in the browser implanted or is this a goal for x64?

I’m still struggling with the fonts in O25.

In the flags there’s an option ‘Disable DirectWrite’ with an ‘enable/disable’ button.
So, in order to have DirectWrite do its job, I have to disable ‘Disable DirectWrite’. Correct?

Funny thing is: fonts look better when I have ‘Disable DirectWrite’ enabled. So confusing…

    • Martin Fiala

If you set Disable DirectWrite to Enable, it means you’ve disabled DirectWrite and you’re using the old Chrome way of rendering font (a particularly terrible font rendering, I’d say, but clearly your opinion differs on that).

But yeah, those “Enable to disable” settings are kinda confusing. Wish more thought would be put into labeling those options.

  • A. R.

Hey, I have made Finnish spell checker for Opera. I’m willing to share it so that many Finns can use Opera as well. But I’m sorry I have to ask something in return… I have posted earlier few suggestions… 🙂

  • Herr Pietrus

Let me say a few words about new speed dial design once again …
The more I think about it, the more attractive it seems to be, but it definitely requires a couple of fixes.
First of all i think that coast-like design looks better on mobile devices. Squares are always smaller on them and thus favicons looks better on them, as well as big single color surfaces. What’s more chaotic mix of different colours squares is less attractive than a set of real thumbnails, which are colorful and thanks to it, paradoxically, more harmonic.

Therefore you definitely should give us a possibility to choose between thumbnails, faviocns and text labes for each of SD elements, especially that there is a problem with autoamtically generated labels for websites originating form the same domain. That’s why perhaps we should have a possibility to change also these labels, but I understand that it can be too much confusing since we can already edit SD element names.

Secondly I think it’s absolutely essential to let us zoom in and out only SD thumbnails, not the whole SD/discover page. Now if I want to have bigger/smaller squares i must enlarge whole site and as a result the discover page content becomes too small or too big for convenient reading! We can do this via advanced settings for old SD page and I believe that there will be the same option for the new one. BTW, it shouldn’t be hidden in my opinion…

I think also that these new buttons which opens bookmark manager and discover are too big. Perhaps theres is a chance to customize them?…
Alternatively you can let us change SD and Discover zoom level separately, That would give us a chance to male these buttons smaller without negative effect on Discover tiles’ size.

As for bookmarks manager it would be nice to have a second size of thumbnails available. If you want to replace stash by unsorted bookmarks there should be separate button to open it. Bookmarks button should open manager on last used folder or on first user’s folder on the list.

  • shane

Bookmarks menu! Bookmarks manager! New start page! Awesome stuff guys, the final pieces have finally arrived and they are everything I’ve been waiting for.

    • oic

it still need proper import function, not silent import

  • herrschildkroete

I’m really happy with the new bookmarks manager. The choice between thumbnails with info line and page preview is very transparent for enduser’s overview about his matters in Internet. So for example, I read a specially magazine every week and the reports there have mostly a picture with. It’s very comfortable to store this essays for my later reading in a separate file or in the preinstalled reading list file and one has a really good overview with his collected items there and an orientation at the pictures. The same with my PDFs I found online, all in one file and in overview. That’s more better and comfortable as the classic bookmarks manager with hierarchical picto. Surprisingly each file let it configure as picture or info line in preview. So I spare me the way and account with other online reading lists and I hope Opera- Synchronizing is ready next time. I have found a way, too storing my bookmarks if I store the bookmark file, it is to find in Opera profile section under data, and I take me a copy from. However I think, so I read here in some discussion items, it is a really danger to overwhelm the clear and simple browser concept which viewed in design too. So it is surely a sophisticate way to manage this new simple browser concept hence the Viking ship has further a clear and awesome line.

  • dflyra

    1. The new start page (with the side panel) has infinite possibilities but why open bookmarks in a new tab?
    2. Please leave the pinned tab intact by opening all links in new tabs.
    3. Please, also, try to synchronize everything from speed-dial, bookmarks, initial set-up (themes, settings etc.) to – even – extensions (we will need an opera cloud for that).
Opera rocks: it’s the first time after almost one and a half year, that we can safely say that and it’s more attractive than any other browser!

Can’t type “C” on any page/ site tho it works fine in the address bar

    OS X 10.9.4

    Opera Dev 25.0.1583.1

  • ayespy

So, cute as it is, the new startpage is actually SLOWER for me to use than “old” speed dial. Here’s why:

For example, I have a folder with seven different courts in it. These are four different levels or branches of county court, two different city courts, and a federal court. The federal and city courts are distinguishable, because they are different domains. The four county courts are NOT distinguishable because all of their domain names start the same, and so the same word(s) appears on those tiles. They are different colors, but that tells me absolutely nothing. If I hover them to see which is which, the built-in delay on displaying the text label on hover slows me down.

In the “old” style, I could tell them apart without having to read anything, because their start pages are dissimilar and the page thumbnail gives them away.

    • Herr Pietrus

I hope that after so many opinions left here they’ll give us much more customization options for speed dial. Actually, work is still in progress, in previous build we could see only the link to the new speed dial.

      • Rodders

Yes clearly the work is not yet finished on these new features. Methinks some people doth protest too much!

        • ayespy

It’s not protestation, it’s just feedback. Feedback helps the developers think in new ways, and that can be good for us users.

  • Lacedaemon

Does Opera Turbo work with twitch.tv ?

    • Leonardo Gomes

Turbo doesn’t block any videos afaik, it just sets the plugins to “click to play” to avoid unnecessary data usage. With the flash plugin disabled, Opera uses html5 to play the video.

      • Lacedaemon

it’s not only html5, some videos use webm, and I would expect something equivalent to the other behavior “i.e. click to play”
Also, that’s why I said about having all the flags enabled, there is that flag called “Video compression in Opera Turbo 2” so I would expect something there as well.

        • Leonardo Gomes

webm is a codec/package and is played by the html5 player.
“Click to play” is only for plugins. And compression has nothing to do with it; Compression makes the video to play with less quality and, therefore, use less data.

          • Lacedaemon

Then the HTML5 player should provide something similar to that and not auto-play videos, to save bandwidth. Also, I didn’t relate that with the compression, I was asking about compressing the twitch.tv stream. Two different things.

    • Vux777

I also didn’t see any gain in that flag “Video compression in Opera Turbo 2”

then again, video re-compression on the fly it’s not easy, if there is any point of that…
I was thinking that they will change resolution/size of it…but so far, no change in data(video) traffic with or without that flag

      • Lacedaemon

yeah but they advertise it as their #1 feature (latest example CEO-TV-interview) but I don’t see anything spectacular.

        • Leonardo Gomes

There is a change that the flag may be not even working.

          • Lacedaemon

Maybe… but it isn’t listed in the list of known issues so it isn’t very likely

          • Leonardo Gomes

Because it’s not an issue. Some flags may just do nothing, they are there only because some work on that feature has started.

  • Ksnoo

After following the discussion regarding stash, new bookmark manager and speed dial a question:

Wouldn’t it be the most simple to leave the start page as it is: speed dial, stash and discover. The bookmark manager could be a separate tab like downloads, settings, addons and history?

For the devs there is no problem to solve and for the user is no real benefit to somehow place the bookmark manager in the start page?

    • Herr Pietrus

No, I think that bookmarks manager should be launched from SD page, i’ts almost the easiest way to do it. (we should also get a button to open bookmarks MENU from TOOLBAR! – in order to open a bookmark without using extra click required do open O-menu or open new tab with SD and bookmark manager button) Downloads, settings and add-ons are “hidden” in O-menu or under the keyboard shortcuts. Of course they are not used so often so it’s not a problem (especially that we’ve got links to add-ons settings in RMB menu, and downloads manager has it’s own button that appears when files is downloaded)

      • Ksnoo

You misunderstood me probably. I have nothing against starting bookmarks manager from start page but since it opens in new tab rather than in start page tab it shouldn’t be among stash, speed dial and discover.

Better it would be another place on start page from where you can open history, bookmarks and other opera pages: maybe the left bottom corner or whereever else, just in side to stash, sd and discover. it is confusing that something opens in newpage, something other not

  • Inquisitor

Here I am again with my pet grumble: font rendering:

Have a look at the attached comaprison: which is the best font rendering and which is the worst: A-B-C-D-E-F? (Please note, they all look worse than in reality, but that’s due to the jpeg compression – but still, I think the differences are obvious)

    Thanks

    https://vivaldi.net/media/com_easysocial/photos/6805/47586/comparison_original.jpg

    • Inquisitor

      That’s ‘comparison’ – not ‘comaprison’ 😀

      • reesmichael1

‘Comaprison’ would be interesting though 😉

    • Inquisitor

      FYI: A = Firefox; B = Maxthon; C = Opera 12; D = Opera 23; E = Opera25 with ‘Disable DirectWrite’ disabled (ie DirectWrite switched on!); F = Opera25 with ‘Disable DirectWrite’ enabled

Can someone (Opera devs?) please explain why O25 looks so much different from the rest, and -indeed- so much worse?

(All font and zoom settings for all browser were the same).

    • Lacedaemon

Compression destroys everything, especially when talking about fonts, .png format would be a better choice.

      • Inquisitor

Compression or not, you can’t deny that there’s a big difference between ‘D’ and ‘E’. In O25, fonts are bigger, more fuzzy, and because they are bigger, the space between colums disappears. Changing font size or page zoom doesn’t help.

Does anyone know where I can download the last 24 version of Opera Developer? Thanks in advance

Fonts in Linux changed to ugly non-antialiased ones 🙁

    • L33t4opera

Hi, “This is a known issue on Linux. The reason not everyone sees it (and it disproportionally affects Arch users) is because it only breaks with
      certain font settings.

You can try playing with your anti-alias settings to work around this
while you’re waiting for the fix: changing the hinting strength to a
different setting from the one you’re using now should give you your
anti-aliasing back (check KDE’s or Gnome’s advanced font settings to
      change this ).” https://forums.opera.com/discussion/comment/15187830#Comment_15187830

  • Der Herr Nick

Browser history doesn’t work correctly for me. If I stay on a site for a longer while, I need to click the ‘Go Back’ button (or hit backspace) dozens of times in order to return to the page I visited before. Bug or is it only me?

    Win7/32bit

    • Herr Pietrus

Does it happen on every website? I’m asking because I remember that similar problem occurred on specific websites even on Opera 12. 🙂

      • Der Herr Nick

        Yeah. On everery website. 🙁

  • Lacedaemon

Saving from the bundled PDF viewer plugin’s toolbar is now working… good.

  • Herr Pietrus

Hmm… One more idea. Since on the new SD page buttons will be probably placed vertically on the left side and because probably we won’t get sessions in old style, perhaps we could get something like separate SD “tab” for our saved websites aka sessions?

  • cgebhard

I ran across a problem on lenovo.com. Please don’t take this as an advertisement of any kind:

    To reproduce:

    1) go to http://shop.lenovo.com/gb/en/laptops/thinkpad/t-series/t540p/
    2) select one of the laptops to configure them
    3) chose another processor/any other kind of modification
    4) first it says “updating…please wait” and then you end up on a page saying:
“Our apologies The page you requested is not available.”

The website is working correctly in Firefox. Problem occurs on current Stable and Developer release (Win8.1)

    • Lacedaemon

No problems here on O25-Vista 32-bit.

    • Leonardo Gomes

      No problems here, same OS.
Is Turbo enabled? If so, try with it disabled. Also check with extensions disabled if you use any of them.

      • cgebhard

I tried each extension separately. Apparently it’s linked to HTTPSeverywhere.

        Thanks for checking!

        • http://www.facebook.com/hector.maciasayala Hector Macias Ayala

That extension caused more problems to me, including Lenovo dot com too, searching for a Laptop Manual, that was the last day that extension was installed in my rig. And solved none, since encrypting every single connection was not a real issue.

  • Dmitry Kirin

Opening this huge 7MB JPG poster crashes the tab right after the download completes. Reproducible in 100% cases here with this build on Win7x86.

    • Der Herr Nick

      Confirmed. Win7/32

    • taneli

      No crashes here on Win8.1×64.

    • blackcoder

I can not confirm this on Windows 8.1 64-bit.

    • dflyra

      Not confirmed – Win 8.1 64 bit

      • http://www.youtube.com/user/max1cp?feature=mhum Maxim

It crashes only if you switch the tab while it’s loading.

        • Dmitry Kirin

Hmm… no, I don’t have to switch tabs here to get the bug. Seems it’s limited to Win7.

          Thanks everybody for checking!

          • Marcin Mitek

Cannot confirm, at least on 32bit Win 8.1.

          • http://www.facebook.com/hector.maciasayala Hector Macias Ayala

Limited to Win 7 32 bit, I did the test on Win 7 x64, nothing happened.

  • Marc

Why did you remove the search field from the Stash in the new opera:flags/#experimental-start-page feature? That was really usefull since I just put so many sites in there and I want to be able to search for them later on. I hope you’ll add that again.
    Also: tab stacking/grouping, please! 🙂

    • taneli

Because Stash is (apparently) being merged with the new Bookmarks on the new startpage, opera://flags/#bookmarks

      • Marc

        Ah, I see. Thank you

  • taneli

Was trying to figure out why the hell Youtube’s “My Subscriptions” page keeps changing so much, so, they got responsive design (CSS) in there, and if you zoom the page even a little bit on a video, it changes the layout in “My Subscriptions”.
This is not quite as annoying as every other case where the domain linked zooming is used (which are *”!# *¤%#” “#¤% bad, baad). Is there a possibility for unlinking these?

  • http://www.lalaurette.com.ar/ Sebastián Lalaurette

I’m pretty sure this is due to the new bookmarking system, since I’ve already verified that some folders are nonstandard and don’t sync: Xmarks fails constantly with the following message.

    bookmarks error: Error with sync response: Invalid response object: {“status”:-3,”errormsg”:”Unknown HTTP response: 0″,”text”:””,”len”:0,”seclevel”:1}

This started happening with this latest snapshot, after I had moved some bookmarks to “My folders” and had to move them again to their original positions because they weren’t recognized by any extension.

    • ayespy

I have xmarks installed in O25 as well, but I’m not letting it sync AT ALL as long as bookmarks is fluid.

      • http://www.lalaurette.com.ar/ Sebastián Lalaurette

Word to the wise! The only reason I keep using it is that it lets me restore old bookmark sets. 🙂

  • ko1o7

is there a method for importing bookmarks from chrome to opera???

    • ayespy

You move the Chrome bookmarks folder to the Opera profile, or install and run XMarks.

  • Patata Johnson

There used to be a time when Opera fought for open standards and against Microsoft’s monopol with it’s IE. Am I the only one who us concerned about their new path? Today Google / Chrome became the new IE, using own standards and not carrying about open web standards that much.
There isn’t much left of what Opera once made it the solution of my choice.
Even the browser itself is mediocre at best

    • https://christoph142.wordpress.com/ Christoph142

You’re pretending things without backing them up with any facts.
Opera does still propagate the open web. There’s a working group especially for this, they are contributing Chromium patches to keep the engine according to standards and they are communicating with website owners whenever these are sniffing for user agents to serve different content for different browsers.
Please don’t just state something out of the blue without looking up facts before.

    • http://my.opera.com/haavard/ opvard

Opera is in a much better position to promote open standards with Blink than with Presto. It’s kind of hard to influence the world when the engine is basically being ignored.

      • Patata Johnson

Promote open standards or promote Google’s view of standards? http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2397158,00.asp

        • Lacedaemon

“In a recent discussion I had with Hakum Lie, CTO of browser maker Opera Software, the Nordic exec expressed concern about Google’s approach.”

It would be nice to know if this man still works @ Opera ASA 🙂

      • http://www.facebook.com/hector.maciasayala Hector Macias Ayala

Opera would be in a much better position to promote open standards if instead of Bink you’ve adopted Gecko.

Then you could speak about open standards. Opera would be more compatible, more stable, more extensible, and more lightweight.

How to access “trash can” on Linux?

    • ayespy

If you mean recently closed tabs, it’s probably the same as in windows – Opera menu/recently closed.

      • kapsi

There’s no Opera menu anymore, at least on Unity. There’s only the option to reopen last tab.

        • https://christoph142.wordpress.com/ Christoph142

          It’s a known issue (DNA-24948)

        • ayespy

          Ouch.

  • Lacedaemon

I know it is work in progress but one will be able to select and delete multiple bookmarks (currently you can select as much as you want but you have to delete one by one by right-clicking only), as well as drag & group bookmarks like in SD, right?

  • Side

    Hi,

Just found a little graphic glitch in the dev tools, see below

i’m quite new here, where can i check if the issue is known and if not where can i report it ?

The new start page looks amazing btw

    • L33t4opera

Hi, you can report it, using the Opera’s bug report wizard.

      • Side

        Thanks, reported as DNA-24884

  • A. R.

    we need:

    – tab stacking / grouping
    – get back the setting to move cache

and why so so so many different processes? Can these be tuned down a bit by design? Even the launcher.exe makes one opera.exe process, permanently. And opera.exe and gpu makes each a process, then there is like 10 renderer processes even despite that when having only 1 tab and that’s speed dial.

    Something is totally wrong.

    • Leonardo Gomes

and why so so so many different processes?

That’s how Chromium based browsers works.

Can these be tuned down a bit by design?

Afaik there is a command line to turn on single process. Maybe they could add a flag to enable it.

      Something is totally wrong.

Probably not. One process for the browser itself, one for each tab, one for each extension, one for gpu, one for each plugin and so on.
You can see them on Opera’s Task Manager.

      • A. R.

I have tried the single process switch, and it’s great! But there is a bug, links to visited websites doesn’t change color.

  • BlB

Can you add the copy/paste and cut functions in the new bookmarks manager please

  • Lacedaemon

Browsing the internet with a mobile internet pre-paid card, where every image count towards eating up your free MB’s, it would be nice if the “show images, cached images, no images” of Presto Opera would exist… Having to go to the settings, disabling images and having to enter some url’s afterwards in the same page is really a pain in the ass… Do something for it please!

    • Corzo

I have to agree with the fact that function is useful, and the only way to replicate that function in opera chromium is via extension and the result is not good because don’t behave even close to the way we know.

  • Jerónimo Barraco M.
    • Ala Sacbar

      for me too

    • A. R.

Looks like O25 is going to be a long time in the dev channel. All because of some eye-candy start page.

While….. Opera’s stated vision is “to deliver the best Internet experience on any device.” …Devs are not focused on features that make using & browsing the web more easier & handy.

  • LoutrePerfide

http://projectphoenix.info/ is not working properly. Can’t seem to have the website loading at all. Works on Chromium

    • Lacedaemon

Works in O 12.17 as well.

    • https://christoph142.wordpress.com/ Christoph142

      I reported it as DNA-24986

  • Wraith

Any news about Full Sync ? this is getting tooooo long.

  • Jan Dudík

One of last missing things in new Opera is IRC client – or IRC plugin 🙁

    • A. R.

Clients other than browser won’t be in the new Opera. I’m just amazed that while they did that, they are also actively removing and rejecting browser client features as well. Huh.

  • http://www.coreymwamba.co.uk/ Corey Mwamba

The font rendering seems to be broken for me.

    • https://christoph142.wordpress.com/ Christoph142

It’s a known issue for Linux. It’s gonna be fixed soon.

  • Albu Emil

Any chance to get a 32 bit version Linux distribution ?

I’m on an Ubuntu 14 system and i have to use the i386 version (don’t even ask :p ) and i really miss Opera. Opera 12 works, but i got used to the Opera 20+ interface and now i miss that 🙂

  • nanana1

Today, with the release of Opera Developer build 25.0.1592.0, we get out first ever glance of the long awaited BOOKMARKS !

    http://get.geo.opera.com/ftp/pub/opera-developer/25.0.1592.0/

    • Inquisitor

Bookmarks List View shows only colored blocks with no text:

      • nanana1

Lol, do select the Tile view at the top left corner. 😀

    • L33t4opera

The change log, and the announcement.

  • A. R.

A browser is a frame for people to use internet. The start page is good and nice, but how about other features? Features that make browsing the web easier and more fun? Especially easier and more handy.

Are we seeing these kind of feature being added to Opera?

Opera’s stated vision is “to deliver the best Internet experience on any device.”

Speed dial is a pretty good start page already.

So how does the new start page make using the web more easier & handy for example compared to tab stacking? Or basically any tab bar feature… Which are none at the moment.

  • A. R.

BUG: When using single process switch, for example google results page, links to visited websites doesn’t change color. Any visited link do not change color.

How do I get access to my bookmarks in stash now. If stash is being removed, it should automatically be imported to bookmark unsorted

    • L33t4opera

You can force this procedure, by following the below steps:
      1. Close the Opera, go to your Opera’s profile folder (you can find the path in O-Menu>About Opera>Paths>Profile), open the “Local State” file in your text editor,
      2. Find the line, that contains: “stash_imported”: true, and change true to false, then save the changes, close the file, and relaunch the Opera.
All of the Stash items, should be now visible in the “Unsorted Bookmarks” on the BM page.

Alternatively, you can switch off the BM flag: opera://flags/#bookmarks, and relaunch the Opera. After that, you will be able to access the Stash page again.

  • Toshiyuki Saito

As I commented elsewhere, we confirmed some users see this issue. It is a Chroimum bug looks like, so we are looking into it. Thanks.
