We have another developer update for you today. This release includes some fixes for Opera menu, bookmark bar, tabs and Discover. Please see the changelog for the full list.

The network installer for Windows is exactly the same as last time. It will, however, download the latest version.

Let us know if you find any problems. Good luck with testing Opera Developer. 🙂

    Thanks. Updating. 🙂

    // Not yet in autoupdate.

    • Auto-update should be live. There could be some delays due to … servers. Uhm. Blinking, … ? I do not know. :-/ Investigating.

  • thanks.

  • Dartaen

WTF, “List of recently closed tabs is always empty” still didnt fixed!

    • We have only had one full working day after it was discovered! 🙂

      • Dartaen

Freeze this build and name it “Bond 007 Build”, no one will know what tabs you are closed.. 🙂

ps empty recent tabs is very annoying!

        • Nerdebeu

          For me, it is worse:
“Extension pop-out windows are blank on Windows”

  • Piotr Karol Żółtowski

    Thanks, Radek 🙂

  • Bogdan Sokolov

    “HiDPI enabled” problem still exists.

    • Marcin Mitek

HiDPI is not enabled because it’s been reworked almost from scratch. That’s why you may expect it doesn’t look nice right now, we are aware of it. Good information is that these require only small changes in code, we will highlight it in the blog post whe it will be ready for proper testing by you.

  • To those guys in the engine department:
can you pull https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=321305 into 33?
I intended to implement “Open” for files with it in http://christoph142.wordpress.com/2014/01/11/download-control-1-0-alpha-3/ for Opera 20. Otherwise I’d have to strip down the extension’s functionality or delay it until Opera 21.

  • .1 indicates that this is the last Dev build of 20?

    • .0 is built automatically at midnight CET. .1 usually means that something went wrong or missing and we had to build again. It is really just build system internals.

  • Mrreow

I just want to be able to set a custom default search engine, startpage to be exact. Why won’t you let me do it? ;_; It’s the only thing missing for me to change to Opera..

    • Raylan Givens

What about the inability to change site preferences with an easy way? Currently it’s entirely broken even via settings, the hassle. Youtube and other video sites are blocking flash even whilst I reverted to “allow in all pages to run plugins,

Ability to customize even the few available mouse gestures?

Why when I load sites are running compressed in off-road mode? How do I revert it to normal desktop mode, uncompressed while I got flat Internet connection?

      • Mrreow

I don’t know, I stopped using it when I couldn’t set a custom default search engine, all I could say was “What the actual F*?” and uninstall it.

Seriously though, is there a legit reason other than “We haven’t gotten to it yet” for not having the option to make a custom search engine the default one?

        • Nekomajin42

They said many times, that they want to find a way to prevent third-party applications to modify the search engines. You know, Ask, Conduit and other toolbars.

          • Mrreow

So their grand idea was “Hey lets stop users from setting their own default search engines!”?

To me Opera used to be about giving us control, not controlling us, I don’t want to be limited because novice users don’t read set-ups and end up installing toolbars etc It’s not like it’s hard to change back either.

Obviously they have it working now, you know the stopping third parties part. So wouldn’t it be possible to have a tickbox around the search engine thingies that say something like “Lock default search engine.” and when it’s locked it does what it does now.. don’t let anyone change it.. and when it’s not ticked (i.e unlocked) then it allows changes.

Now the above probably wouldn’t work because I assume the current default search engines are hard-coded which is why you can’t change them so the “locking” wouldn’t work that way.
But I assume these third parties edit a file to change the search engine, would it not be possible to change the file to something else (so other settings are not affected) and then encrypt the data inside the file?

That’s all I could come up with, because I don’t really write software. Either way I personally do not like the direction Opera is going if they prefer locking down such options if they can’t find another way to let us change it without third parties being able to change it.

I remember reading somewhere that the goal was to rebuild “the Swiss army knife of browsers” from scratch with Blink. I wonder if I was dreaming or if it was only a select few options?

Sorry if I’m being a downer but I found Opera just before the change to blink and it was the first browser that I really liked, but then it basically turned into Chrome minus custom default search engines.

But then again staying with Presto was apparently a no no and you couldn’t just switch it out for blink because compatibility issues or something like that but from what I’ve seen so far, it’s going to take many many years to rebuild it to its former glory, if that is even the route they want to go, god knows it’s more important to have a large userbase than a truly unique product these days.

So yeah, those are my opinions, sorry for being a horrible person. =/

          • gekitsu

i agree with you so much.

opera was a browser that worked well out of the box, and it didnt limit you much in how much you could configure.

it did never treated you like it knew better, or like you were a dumbass who needed protecting from himself.

and exactly that is whats fundamentally wrong with the new opera.
and it doesnt even work out of the box.

          • Nekomajin42

I agree with most of your points, but you have to understand, that good software needs time. You want everything they have built for more than two decades, but it’s only a year since they switched to Chromium.
I also say, that they are too slow, but imagine yourself in their seats: There are thousands of users who want so called “basic features”. A lot of those feautres requires only a few hours of coding, but these stack up. Why do they pick your request instead of someone else’s?

Plus, everyone in this blog acts like a user. Because we are users. We get a product for free. But sofware developement is not free. They have to make money, because they have employees, they have to buy computers and electricity and food and a lot of stuff. They get money from advertisers (like Google). But the amount of money they can get is depends on their market share, on the number of users. That’s why regular users are so important, and that’s why “power users” are not enough.

I also miss “basic features”, I also want to see the full URL, I also want options, but whining does not help. They are not stupid. They know, that if they fail with their only product, they are done. So be constructive and send bugreports, or switch to another browser without whining.

          • Mrreow

            You’re right.

But hey, if they enable us to set custom search engines I could start using the browser and then start making bug reports for the bugs I would find, if any. =3

It’s true what you say, it’s a free product but they must get paid somehow, and you can’t really make a web browser you have to pay for.. because who would use it? “Normal” users would just use Chrome or Firefox instead.
Personally I would pay (a one time fee.. I despise subscriptions and time limited licenses) for Opera if it had the old features packed in this new version and it worked well… but really where’s the market for that?

If Opera is scared a lot of options would intimidate novice users then they could have an “Enable Advanced Settings” option, but I think it’s more like you say, that it just takes a long time developing this.

Also regarding the whining, I’m sorry about that.
I requested the feature sometime when Opera first switched to Chromium (under a different username though) and I’ve been waiting ever since, the first post was meant to simply point out that this is still a feature I’d need to make the switch, I figure at least a few people would feel the same… but then that frustration bottled up inside me found a way out in text, I apologize for the whining.

I tried to be somewhat constructive by giving ideas how to deal with the default search engine while still not allowing third parties to hijack it.. but then again I’m not a developer so I don’t even know if any of that will work, it’s probably much harder than that. Besides that little bit of maybe.. perhaps.. somewhat constructive ideas got buried in my negativity.

Anyway, as it looks now I probably won’t be using Opera for a while.. and the only other browser I’m interested in is Comodo Dragon which is basically Chromium with a bit of privacy modifications.. but releases are infrequent and seem to always have some form of bug that makes you revert to a previous version, I wish to get away from that.

  • Nekomajin42

I’ve just updated to this version, and after I started Opera, Panda Cloud AV found the crashreporter.exe and the autoupdater.exe infected.

    • Operalino

      Comodo didn’t find anything 😉

      • Nekomajin42

I don’t think these files are infected, but something must have happened on Opera’s side or Panda’s side, because this is the first time such a thing happend. And it happend after the updater finished and I started the browser.

        • Marcin Mitek

Hi, I followed your steps and it is working for me, I was updating from previous dev build to this one. Both crashreporter.exe and autoupdater.exe are marked as safe by Panda Cloud AV. I will contact them anyway, because they treat our network installer as a virus apparently (false positive).

    • We are investigating and will work with Panda to resolve this.

    • Avast always mark those but just as a warning and offers the option to add an exclusion.

      No bug, no big deal.

The same happens everytime I update Firefox UX nightly builds.

  • James

    The ‘Downloads’ icon wont gtfo!

    • Marcin Mitek

Already fixed internally. “F” is not required, really.

  • JiuKz

Since version 19, when open link (in new tab) with the middle click the extensions don’t load. I have to reload the page and it happens in all pages.

  • David_Gould

Any chance of going back to Presto tab ordering? If I R-click a link to open in a new tab, when I close that new tab, Opera should take me back to the earlier, parent tab.

Instead Opera Blink takes me to the next tab in the list, and given the awful access to tabs in Opera currently, this is a major PITA.

I’d also like to recommend Tabs Outliner, a Chrome extension which seems to be based on Presto’s sidebar tab control. A word of warning though: do not close Opera without closing Tabs Outliner first — you’ll lose your window list.

    • syplex

This is so maddening. The tab order “logic” in Opera-post-12 is so illogical and annoying it makes me angry several times a day!

    • Marcin Mitek

There is a flag for this in opera://flags.

      opera://flags/#activation-order-tab-cycling

      • Piotr Karol Żółtowski

        Hej, Marcin 🙂

Can you tell me why the flags in opera://flags are’nt translated, for example, to polish?

        • Marcin Mitek

In the beginning we were translating them. It’s no longer translated because in most cases translating dry/technical content from flags would be hard, and awkward sometimes (what if some word has really weird translation in some language and the English one is better known among people?). So it’s not super user friendly, because we cannot assume that everyone knows English, but hey, it’s for limited number of our users in the end. Maybe we will go back to translating it at some point, who knows.

Also, names for each option in opera:config in O12 are in English too.

          • Piotr Karol Żółtowski

Ok, I understand. Now another question. When will be an update for Stable Opera?

          • Leonardo Gomes

Probably in february based on http://www.opera.com/blogs/desktop/streams/ and on the date of the latest stable release.

      • ryofurue

I’m told “Sorry, this experiment is not available on your platform.” That feature seems to be available only on Windows.

Why isn’t it the default in the first place? I don’t see logic in the current behavior. Who doesn’t want to be brought back to the parent tab?

Why is it an “experiment”? Would they retract this option in the future?

  • Martin

    O->Discover/Stash goes to SpeedDial?
Custom sized speeddials and the big thumbnails contradict functionality?

    Thanks for the quick updates!

    • Piotr Karol Żółtowski

      “O->Discover/Stash goes to SpeedDial?”
Looks like a small bug. I also have this problem.

  • iG0Lka

On a 30″ monitor, with a resolution of 2560 x 1600, after upgrading all elements look gigantic!

If you disable HiDPI Support, favicons, and list of open tabs look really small!

Before the Developer version everything was fine.

    • Dell U3011? I have the same 😛

      • iG0Lka

        dell 3008

    • Mark Lavrijsen

Same thing on 2560×1440(27 inch Dell) with higher DPi(115% on Windows 7) settings enabled
Things look huge(and misaligned), and I’ve had a hard time disabling HiDPI because mouse pointer clicks where not corresponding to the real locations in Opera.

  • Couple of questions…

When I copy URL from the address bar, it does not copy HTTP:// part. Not cool.
Updates appears to be full downloads and not delta updates like Chrome?
How do I import bookmarks from Chrome?
Why cannot I shut down Opera by closing the last remaining tab by pressing Control+W?

    • Leonardo Gomes

Here the http:// part is copied when i copy an url from the address bar.

Yes, updates are full downloads. But it will change in the future.

You don’t, atm Opera can’t import bookmarks from other browsers.

    • Marcin Mitek

As for last question – it’s been like this for a long, long time, this is by design. You can close Opera with Ctrl + Shift + X shortcut.

  • IllusionMH

Will creating new windows by tab draging recieve some attention in near future?
Unable to create new window on second monitor or create new window where LMB was released. Very annoying.

    • Marcin Mitek

Works fine here with this version, any details?

      • IllusionMH

Opera maximized(few tabs): when you release tab on second screen, new maximized window is created on first screen.
        In rare cases works fine.

Opera maximized(one tab): window dissapears while you are dragging tab miniature) and reappears maximized on first screen when you release it on second screen.

Opera not maximined(restored? sorry forgot correct term): when you drag from first screen and releases on first screen – new window is created as cascade, but not in close to where you release tab.

Opera not maximined: when you are dragging from first screen to second – forks fine.

        Win7 x64 SP1

        • Marcin Mitek

OK, now, what is your screens setup? 🙂 2? Which one is primary (left, right, top, bottom – depends how you stack them)? What is the resolution on both of them? I am on Win 8.1 right now, but I will check on Win 7.

          • IllusionMH

            Main 1920×1080
            Second 1280×1024
            Multiple displays: Extend this displays

            Layout http://take.ms/HcmT0

          • Marcin Mitek

Awesome, thanks. I’ll let you know about any findings (it may be tomorrow).

For any future bug findings: this example what kind of information about your setup/steps etc. we may ask. Details matter very often 🙂

          • kzks

            I have the same problem.

            1920×1200 main
            1050×1680 second (portrait orientation)
            32bit win7
            layout

        • Marcin Mitek

Sorry for the late response. So, here’s what follows:

          1. Bug, confirmed, for the reference – DNA-15535
          2. This is by design.
          3. This is by design. The reason why it does it the way you describe it:
          – allows you still to drag other opera windows,
          – allows you to close/minimize/maximize them
          – allows you to use the OMenu right away on all of them

And from your first comment, about placing window in the middle of the second display – I will ask for changing this behavior, it’s not the most elegant.

Thank you for your feedback. if you have any questions – shoot 🙂

          • IllusionMH

If I understand correctly, than 3 is for dragging tab on same screen.

Cascade is not so good if you have window in left part of the screen and want to create window with same size but on right part, you should drag tab outside of main window, and then grab new window(on lest part) and drag it to a desired position. 🙁

And it would be really greate if tab gragging to screen edge will dock new window to that edge, as for usual window.(I’m speaking about Win7 +)

For example: you grab tab, and move cursor to left edge of screen. Then new window should be created docked to left side and takes left half of the screen.

Same for dragging to top ende when new window should be maximized 🙂

          • Marcin Mitek

I see your points. I just don’t know if docking will work flawlessly with the current design. In my opinion – current design works better on smaller screens with lower resolution, where docking doesn’t make sense. On the other hand, all these issues/missing things you mentioned make more sense on double screen setup, with higher resolutions available. I will ask around what can be done to improve our behavior here, many thanks 🙂

          • IllusionMH

            Thanks!

      • IllusionMH

Strange, I can see my detailed reply in my profile, but can’t see it here.
        http://www.opera.com/blogs/desktop/2014/01/opera-developer-20-0-1380-1/#comment-1199966048

I found case in which new window is created correctly on second monitior.

When you open browser and drag tab from first screen to secont, it is created on first screen. Then you can drag whole window to second screen.

After this you can freely drag tabs to second window, and works fine.

but new window is oppened only in the centre of second screen (not where cursor was released) and with fixed proportins to screen (doesn’t remember window dimensions in restored state) 🙁

        • Marcin Mitek

Describe your screens setup also and I’ll try to reproduce.

  • Vux777

Only way to prevent opera altering hosts file was to set it read-only :/
Discover should be an option and not forced to users like it is now

    • rafaeljvieira

You can simply deselect the option “Preload Discover Contents” in opera:settings. Then, if don’t enter Discover, it won’t load any content for you.

I believe there’s also an extension to hide the Discover (and Stash?) button, which I think it’s called Better Speed Dial.

      • Vux777

extensions don’t work on Opera internal pages since (I think) ver 17.
there is a patch, but that’s not what I meant
host file will be altered regardless you checked or unchecked “preload discover content”

    • Leonardo Gomes

What is changed? Host file seems unchanged here.

      • Vux777

        my bad
my new firewall (manager) TinyWall added bunch of sites into hosts file where I was keeping only one line for blocking discover
and since it replaced old file, discover in new Opera installation started to work, so I connected it to Opera :/

  • hspdion

On the Mac version and have been experiencing ‘oddness’ with the last two builds. Finally narrowed things down & found out what is happening.

I have the “Enable Mouse gestures” preference turned OFF. However the gestures are still registering inadvertently while using Opera with my apple magic trackpad. I’ve already tried clearing private data & also tried turning that option on, restarting, turning the option back off, and restarting Opera again. However mouse gestures continue to be ON regardless.

    • yrwenkuw
      • Bjarne Bertelsen

Opera developer mac is now impossible to use. Mouse gestures are off, but when I scroll (with two fingers) pages flips back to speed dial. And I don’t want to use next or stable without sync, so now I don’t know what to use.

    • Olli

Already posted tis on the last build. This is only happening for going a page back for me. Very annoying, hope they fix this in the next build.

    • Ania Milaszewska

Yes, we are aware of this issue, it was introduced by chromium intake and we’re working on fixing this.

  • rabe85

I can’t access my router by typing “fritz.box” in the url bar. It always opens google with the search.

    • Tüütlüm Ohaya

This problem i described once in a while, Opera is not comfortable for router menus. You must add / (slash) behind fritz.box (fritz.box/)

But no casual user will find this out. Firefox and Internet Explorer works here much better, they recognize that i want to open a local system menu and don’t use search engine.

    • rafaeljvieira

try tipping: http://fritz.box , it should work. If it does, from now on you should only need to type fritz.box

      • rabe85

Ok, that works (until i clear the browsing data). But i never used that way in o12.16 and it works fine. There must be a better url / search logic. I hope that logic will be implemented in o20. Like Tüütlüm Ohaya said, a normal user will never find that out and get confused.

  • Dark Magician

You should’ve waited to fix those known issues before releasing new build.
    They are pretty annoying.

    • Nekomajin42

That’s the point of this release model.

    • No. The Developer stream is and will remain unstable. Period. Use Opera Next or Opera Stable for all your daily browsing. We have been clear about this since the start.

      • Dark Magician

Of course it’s unstable, still I get the sense you’re rushing too much for new builds, because of the pause for the hollydays.

        • Leonardo Gomes

Nothing has changed significantly regarding this, they are still on the average pace of 1 or 2 builds per week.

          • Dark Magician

            Exactly.

  • Tüütlüm Ohaya

Thank you for the update, but it takes very very long to download it, what happened to the servers ?

    • Thee are many servers. You may have gotten a slow one. They are also under a constant heavy load.

  • Kiên Trần

and yet the blank extensions’ popout windows hasn’t been fixed 😮 that’s one serious bug

    • senna_4ever

i thought it was only with me

  • ossen

может хватит браузер убивать?? увольтесь к чертям нахуй

  • rabe85

Is it possible to open a private tab or can i only open a private window?

    • Vux777

      only private window

      • rabe85

        Bad, thanks.

  • eduardoscorpio .

known issue are still the same last version wtf is going on in your minds that the bloody browser its still mess.
yet you push new versions like your changing underwear without any real improvement
Way to piss on your users

    • ayespy

Please, please, please – for your own peace of mind and everyone else’s, STOP using software development builds and use only things that are totally finished an polished. You are not constitutionally suited to testing software.

      • eduardoscorpio .

so the fact i want real improvements makes me unsuited for testing? looool
its been months since the new opera is out and so far real improvements have been = 0

        • ayespy

Ah – you make an unhelpful, utterly clueless, useless, insulting and demeaning comment, because you “want real improvements” (leaving any and all to wonder what you might view as “real improvements”). Yes, that sort of behavior means you are temperamentally unsuited for testing.

One also hopes you are not a coach, teacher or manager.

Your barber must love you, especially since you go to the barber college, where the haircuts are free: “You cut my hair almost the same as last time! WTF is going on in your mind that my bloody hair is still a mess? You fling your scissors around like you were hacking at shrubbery! Way to piss on your customers!”

You adhere to the Gordon Ramsey school of “feedback.”

What’s the real problem? You prefer a clipper cut over a scissor cut. Fine. Go to a different barber. Don’t inflict yourself on someone whose style is incompatible with yours.

Or your bangs are too long. Ahh! How about “Could you take a little off the bangs, here? I’d like them shorter.”

Being insulting and demeaning isn’t helping anyone. You’re no one’s f*cking drill sergeant. No one hired you to be chief scold – especially if all you’re going to do is hurl general insults rather than give useful feedback.

        • Leonardo Gomes

Rant about bugs on in-development versions/builds just shows that you are not able to use them. In this case, you should use only the stable ones, as said.

Also, there have been improvments since Opera 15 first public build was launched. Maybe not the ones you wanted, but there were improvments.

  • Vux777

after sharing something from Facebook feed page, page jumped to the top
    …and I was deep down ๏̯͡๏ …scrolling ofc

    • Leonardo Gomes

I’ve noticed it on the last build too.

  • Piotr Karol Żółtowski

Dear Opera Softare. I have noticed in The Weather extension that there is some missing strings (see example screenshot)

And here is the list of missing strings:
    -partly cloudy
    -cloudy
    -clear sky

Please, fix this in The Weather extension 🙂

  • This update killed Opera Dev’s & Opera Next’s Windows jumplist entries over here. “New tab”, “New window” and “New private window” all throw an error now

    • Leonardo Gomes

I’ve just teste here and everything seems to be working fine.

      • Lucky you

        • Marcin Mitek

Hmmm they are fine here on my machine. Have you filed a report already?

          • No, I didn’t file a report yet

          • Marcin Mitek

Hmm have you tried clean installation of Next? Seems ok also here, and the one I have on this machine has been updated plenty of times.

    • Michael Maier

      Confirmed
      Windows 7

  • I can’t seem to set custom speed dial sizes. Is there some sort of setting I now need to enable?

    • Nekomajin42

Use konami code on the settings page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Konami_code

      • I’ve done that. i can see and edit the height and width, but when I then close the settings page the speed dial won’t update the sizes. It makes me think I’m missing some other check-box or something.

        • Vux777

did you uncheck “use big speed dial thumbnails” ?

          • I’ve tried with it unchecked, and with it checked. There seems to be a very small increase in size when it is checked, but it’s not as big as I had it in the previous version of developer.

          • Vux777

well I’m gonna mention one more thing that I was doing wrong when thumbnails size was introduced..I was clicking reset after every size change…ofc nothing happened 🙂

        • Martin

I believe the recent change of making big speeddials default has bugged the custom settings, at least in my case.

  • WB

Will we have to download a new netinstaller every time? Or the previous one always downloads the most recent version of Opera?

    • Nekomajin42

“The network installer for Windows is exactly the same as last time. It will, however, download the latest version.”

  • rufu2

There is a small bug or inconvenience using the extended keyboard commands:
If you go through the tabs with “1” or “2”, and one of the tabs is a speed dial, then the “1” or “2” is taken into the address bar. So you can’t get away from a speed dial with these commands.
This probably is because in a speed dial tab, the text focus is on the address bar — which is very reasonable, and should NOT be changed.

    • That is indeed the reason. Advanced shortcuts are for the advanced users who can press Escape ones when they open a new tab to remove focus from the address field.

  • rufu2

…another tiny bug in extended keyboard commands: Z and X are used for going back and forwards in history. On German keyboards, X should be Y, since these keys are switched compared to the English layout.

    • Think about how inconvenient they are on a non-Latin keyboard. 😉 We are aware that some keyboard layouts have problems with some of the shortcuts (regular ones and the advanced ones in particular).

The solution is likely to be custom configurable shortcuts some time in the future.

      • Dmitry Kirin

In Russian version of Word 2010, menu hotkeys are so illogical that I’m not sure anybody is using them at all. If translated, that “logic” would look like this: File, maiN, eDit, paGe, referenCe, view (O)… 🙂

  • moto0000

Plis, add “hide [+] on speed dial page” option

    • Bogdan Sokolov

And please add ctrl+1, ctrl+2, ctrl+3 etc. functionality in speed dial, as it was in Opera 12.

      • Pascal.

        Yes, please add this!!

    • arfz

      this, please…
In O12 i rarely using speeddial, with bookmark and bookmark bar is good enough.
I like my home screen clean and fill it with my fav theme/wallpaper, so when i open new tab i like to see my fav theme/wallpaper rather than those (web capture) dial 🙂
ah.. and please bring back theme support to 🙂

    • Michal Bartoszewicz

Wait, what? This isn’t implemented? o_O Jesus, good I’m still not using this abomination.
I love how Opera backpedals on every good decision (which were often explained in a blogpost or a dedicated page to be good for a browser/web). It’s like microsoft with win8..

  • senna_4ever
    • Leonardo Gomes

It will be fixed. Just don’t know if during this development stage. 🙂

  • syplex

Any chance you can fix pop-unders sometime soon? I didn’t ever see these in O12, but I see them frequently in O18 and O20. Two annoying things: 1. I don’t think anything should ever open up outside of a tab. 2. Popup blocker should block popunders.

Specifically what I see happening is on certain websites, you click a link and a new page is opened in the background and NOT in a new tab. This page is not visible because the current page retains foreground/active status. This is basically a popup ad but even worse because it opens a new window AND opens invisibly (ie, behind the current application). It doesn’t happen in O12, so I know this can be solved.

  • Martin

Sorry, another one of your old hard core fans who has stuck up for you for 17 years, is abandoning you. I have found that Maxthon does all Opera used to do – and it works on all sites I’ve been on so far.

The final death knell was when in 1376 Notes would display as blanks. Maxthon has Notes built in, URL shortcuts, direct customizable search engine access via address bar (eg g for google, e for ebay w for wikipedia etc), password manager, autofill, proper bookmark manager, speed dial, gestures – all stuff I Loved at Opera. They even have a split screen option.

The only reservation I have is that it saves information back to the cloud via their Chinese head quarters. Not that I’d feel less concerned about sniffing when saved to a US based server, but Norway seemed much more comfortable….

Sorry Opera, when you have the old browser back but working across all sites, let me know. I may re-consider. For now though, I just can’t see the point anymore why I should pay the prize in fighting for you by missing out on a daily basis on features that help me be more productive. Sorry.

    • iG0Lka

hmmmm … interesting. Thanks for the info about Maxthon! Will be trying.

    • Scribe_uk

I’ve been using Maxthon too, whilst waiting for Opera to get its act together – might be a long wait! But I use Maxthon v3 – the non cloud one. I find that the screenshot feature is also very useful – Opera please take note!

    • icetom

expecially the windowing-function is awesome, watchzing youtube videos on dektop without any frame around it.

      • arfz

Yeah, i like it to!, and they have sidebar!
I think right now, maxthon is the only browser that have good built-in feature without using (eat memory) extensions…
I really hope opera able to creates something like they did 🙂

c`mon opera, (something) new feature please 🙂

please bring back the magic! 🙂

    • al_ghul

I heard about its “awsomeness”, but never tried. Now I’ve tried and…WOOOOW! it kicks a…I have to give Maxthon chance! it really resembles old opera and these huge amount of very USABLE and very original options which TOTALLY LACK in other browsers:) yummy! opera devs – you have a real lesson to do…

  • L33t4opera

Thanks for the update, Radek 🙂 Downloading, and testing 😉

  • ice007

Problem with Win7 task-bar: If “auto hide” is activated the task-bar appears if you hover with the mouse over the bottom of the screen.

In 20 Dev. this doesn´t work. 20 Dev seems to “capture” the whole screen so the hided bar can´t be touched.
In Stable and Next it works correctly.

    • This has been a known issue for a long time now (i’ve seen it in past versions of O15+ and chrome), and no-one seems to be fixing it. Presumably not enough of the userbase uses a taskbar set to auto-hide so it’s priority isn’t very high.
A quick fix is to no maximize the window, but resize it to fit your screen.

    • Gary

From reading a previous post they refer to a Chromium issue but when checking the posts on their web site they had closed the issue believing it has been fixed? This is a major problem as it simply does not work at all meaning the opera window needs to be closed to navigate back and forth if you wish to use auto-hide and full screen window (which I would think be standard for many people). Is anyone in Opera working on this problem or simply waiting for the Chromium developers?

  • Vux777

new build with fixed browser action popup and closed tabs list today?…tomorrow? … next month? ツ

  • IVaN4B

Fuck you, Opera, I loved your browser, but not anymore, since you betrayed your fans by nerfing most of your great functions. There is still no version for Linux, I’m tired of waiting, now I moved to Firefox, Goodbye.

  • Anderson Araujo

This. In all extensions. I’ve tryed reinstall, not work.

  • arfz

Please opera, add ability to select link, image, text -> (simple) drag it-> open in new tab? (i don`t know what it called..)
    thank you 😀

    • Leonardo Gomes

If i understood you correctly, i think it’s already possible with links and images. For text only if you drag it into a text field.

      • Guest

No sir, already tried. But nothing happens…
This feature are like in coolnovo or maxthon.
You don`t have to always select link/image/text then right click to search/open in new tab, just (simple) drag it.

        • Leonardo Gomes

I’ve just tested here and i can drag a link to open it in a new tab. However you need to release it on the left of the “+” button.

The same for images but, in this case, it’s the link associated to the image that is opened and not the image itself.

          • arfz

            a.. i know that feature.
But this different. You don`t have to (always) drag links to tab (+) bar.
Just hold and (simple) drag it near links (or whatever you want) and release it.
I think similiar to O12 feature, press centre mouse and click than it open in background, but this feature don`t need mouse.
I think this is simple feature and opera dev able to do it 🙂

          • Leonardo Gomes

I really never saw a feature like that in Opera.

          • arfz

            Which one?
Pressing centre mouse/middle-click a link than open in background?
            http://help.opera.com/Windows/12.10/en/tabs.html
have you tried it, sir 🙂

I don`t know how opera dev see and using opera dekstop in daily basis.
But i think opera need more improvement in user experience like in gesture, shortcut and please add visualization!.
Some browser even already give freedom for user to choose what gesture and shortcut they want to use.

          • Leonardo Gomes

Oh, you were talking about mouse gestures? I thought you were talking about drag and drop.

          • arfz

emm.. i think it not spesific to mouse gesture.
Because what i`m request don`t have to use it with mouse only but able to use it with gesture touch/touchpad to, and it not just for links.
i`m sorry if my explanation not to clear and very confusing 🙁

thank you for you reply, sir 🙂

          • Leonardo Gomes

“Pressing centre mouse/middle-click a link than open in background?”

It works here although not everytime.

  • D M

    • D M

We are willing to PAY for it!

Do not humiliate yourself, stop complaint, simply drop Opera from your life and be happy with Chrome, Firefox, Maxthon, Comodo IceDragon, SRWare Iron, Spark, Internet Explorer(why not?), Avant, Torch, Safari, CoolNovo, SeaMonkey, Comodo Dragon, Superbird, Orca, Pale Moon, Waterfox, Sleipinir, PirateBrowser, Midori, Rekonq, Camino, etc, etc, etc….

    • blackcoder

They already said they are working on Opera for Linux, but don’t expect it before march. As far as i know they dropped support for FreeBSD.

Bookmarks manager please! if it’s not too much trouble for the lazy opera developers

    • ayespy

I’m very much in favor of a full-featured bookmark manager. I am completely against referring to the developers as “lazy.” That’s just infantile.

      • Vlado

You know what’s infantile? Claiming they would port a bunch of features since opera 14, and never doing it. Why? They were busy implementing the useless bookmarks bar. For 6 versions! They skipped 6 versions in couple of months and yet opera 20 differs from opera 14 very little in terms of functionality. But we all know this…

        • ayespy

I happen to appreciate all of the work put into the bookmarks bar. Would it shock you to learn you are not the center of the universe? I think maybe you should write your own browser, since you apparently know instinctively more about browsers, markets and software development than all of Opera.

  • shakita

Could someone please tell me where the wand is so that I can click it to insert saved passwords?

    • Leonardo Gomes

There is wand button. When you open a login page your username and password will be automatically filled on the respectives fields if they were saved for that page.

If the login and password fields weren’t filled, just type the first letter of your login and it will appear in drop down menu and you can select it. You can also click on the login/username field and press the dowm arrow key.

      • shakita

Ah I see. Thankyou for your reply.

      • Emanuele

that, as all we known, is a far way worse implementation of the password manager than the good old Wand (no search for the login form, a single click on the button to login/fill fields, or to be prompted what logins data to use, etc…)

  • Stb Hernández

BOOKMARK! GIVE ME BOOKMARK. I WANT TO USE OPERA BUT I NEED THE BOOKMARK! Even Chrome has them; I don’t get it.

I don’t like Chrome, I like Opera. Give me the Bookmark bar/panel/manager – without needing a dmn Extension adding to the resource consumption – BACK!

    • Leonardo Gomes

      Please don’t shout.

Enable the bookmarks bar on opera: flags and then on settings.

      • Maggus

and how import my >300 bookmarks? With another compromise solution which works more bad than something else! Bookmarks are an essential feature for a browser!

        • Vux777

there is a couple of solutions:

1)install Bookmarks Manager extension and import your HTML bookmarks (you can probably delete extension after that)

          2) if you have Chrome (or any chromium Comodo Dragon, CoolNovo..etc) import bookmarks as html into it, and then just copy “bookmarks” file from profile folder into opera profile folder

          3) some guys used LastPass, Xmark …to sync bookmarks from another browser to Opera
(i never did, so don’t know exact processes)

          4) there is unfinished bookmarks extension that is independent from internal Opera/chrome bookmarks. You can import html bookmarks into it, looks very nice, one of my favorite extensions …but developer abandon it when opera announced that they gonna implement bookmarks in future
you can grab it here (needs to be installed in developer mode)

          btw. I’m not defending Opera
They screwed up everything with that dumbing-down philosophy and pissed of many users, including me..
not having bookmarks manager (a real one) is bad….. bad bad bad

on the other hand, I started to use Bookmarks Bar (never used it before) when folder popup menu was NOT canceled with middle mouse click. I think in all other browsers (tested in Chrome and FF), when someone MMclick bookmark on folder menu, that menu disappear… f***ing annoying

and for abandoning notes, they should be publicly tortured…on main town square ツ

        • Leonardo Gomes

Well, i’ve posted this on the forums regarding bookmarks:

I said it sometime ago and i still believe that bookmarks – at least in the way we know then today – will be past in a few years. Opera may be just starting it.

Bookmarks were very helpful in the beginning of the web when we had addresses like “www.somehostservice.com/somethingrandom/anotherrandom world/nowsomerandomnumber/pagename/8lettersname.html and search mechanisms were virtually nonexistent.

Now they may be still helpful for some people, specially the ones who have enought patience and methodism to categorize them, sometimes in more than one category. But, for people inpatient and disorganized like me, approaches like the page index on Opera Presto or a way to tag a page are many times better.

        • Leonardo Gomes

You can import your Opera Presto bookmarks using the bookmark importer. If it is grayed out, start Opera once with the parameter –presto-small-prefs-dir=ROAMING_PROFILE_DIR’

Don’t forget to change ROAMING_PROFILE_DIR by the correct path to Opera’s (Presto) profile folder.

          • Maggus

            @Leo: Didn’t work for me… “launcher.exe –presto-small-prefs-dir=C:UsersMagguzAppDataRoamingOpera” Opera starts and nothing happend…

          • Vux777

you should know, that way it will import your passwords, speed dial, extensions etc…and overwrite existing one in Opera Blink.

-flag have to be enabled opera://flags/#import-presto-profile

-do you have that folder in roaming/Opera/Opera? (maybe you moved it somewhere)

-if you have 64bit version, folder name is Opera 64, and that space between opera and 64 is not recognized (remove it or put _ between, in folder name and shortcut)

            -correct string would be
            ….launcher.exe” –presto-small-prefs-dir=C:UsersMagguzAppDataRoamingOpera

(no quotes on opera import string)

-after you done it, remove that string from shortcut, because next time you start it, import process will repeat

….I still think it would be better to import bookmarks in some other way

          • Maggus

it worked… But only with Opera 18 and NOT with this version O_o

          • Leonardo Gomes

I guess that maybe it works only with Stable versions/builds.

You can use the stable version to import the bookmarks and then copy the files to Opera Developer’s profile folder.

          • Leonardo Gomes

It didn’t import your Presto profile (SDs, Custom Searches)? Not even the bookmark importer became available?

Strange, it worked here last time i’ve tested a while ago.

            opera://flags/#import-presto-profile is enabled?

  • Michał Gołębiowski

It still forces a dedicated graphics card on a Mac regardless of if it’s needed or not. Chrome does it correctly so you must have broken sth in the process…

IMO this makes Opera unusable on Macs with dedicated graphics cards unless you really don’t care about battery life (and most people do).

    • Leonardo Gomes

What do you mean by “It still forces a dedicated graphics card”?

      • Michał Gołębiowski

Just Opening Opera activates the dedicated graphics card. It should be done only when needed, e.g. when on a site that uses WebGL, otherwise you’re killing battery.

        • Leonardo Gomes

And it happens even if you disable the option to use hardware acceleration?

          • Michał Gołębiowski

Haven’t checked but that’s not the point. It should work correctly without fiddling with flags.

Actually, it seems I was partially wrong – it doesn’t activate the dedicated card just after starting but once any site requests that, it never releases it after closing the tab. Since during browsing some page will ask for it sooner or later, it effectively forces the dedicated card after some time spent on browsing. Only the browser restart helps.

          • Leonardo Gomes

Well, i don’t have a Mac but it seems that Opera may use hardware acceleration for almost everything.

            have you checked opera:gpu?

          • Michał Gołębiowski

Hardware acceleration has nothing to do with it, the integrated graphics card is perfectly capable of it, it’s actually quite decent. The dedicated one is needed only for serious graphics stuff like WebGL.

          • Leonardo Gomes

OK, it seems that Mac works in a different way.

Have you filled a bug report? https://bugs.opera.com/wizarddesktop/

          • Michał Gołębiowski

I did but no reply. Unfortunately, Opera’s bug tracker is closed so I have no way of knowing if anyone plans to do anything about it…

          • Leonardo Gomes

They only reply if some more information is needed.

          • Michał Gołębiowski

I know. That’s exactly what makes the experience suck and makes me less likely to report bugs.

          • Leonardo Gomes

But what would be the point in replying if no new information is needed?

          • Michał Gołębiowski

Bugs are triaged – accepted, rejected, planned for a nearby future or not. There can be some problems with fixing it etc. I’d like to know that. That’s why I love how Mozilla, Google & Apple have open bug trackers where all this info is available. Microsoft is much worse here, you don’t interact with specific people and there is a lot of useless PR but at least it’s sth. In Opera you get no feedback. Discouraging.

          • Michał Gołębiowski

For example, try going to html5test.com and then closing the tab. Opera doesn’t release the card.

  • ryofurue

Please include all default mouse gestures of O12. I cannot live without the drag-down-release gesture to open the link.

    • Operalino

Same for me. I’m missing the drag-down-and-up gesture to open a link in background 🙁

      • Emil Huber

That would be a great thing!
I asked me some days ago what gestures are working. Is there any list about the integrated gestures?

        • Operalino

If you head over to Options and look for mouse gestures you’ll see a link right named “Learn more”. You’ll get a page where the the gestures are listed.

      • Dmitry Kirin

        Isn’t middle click more convenient?

        • Operalino

My trackpad only has two buttons and my middle mouse button at my desktop is a scrollwheel which I use for other functions (called “autoscroll”).

          So: No 😉

          (Thanks for your reply anyway!)

          • Dmitry Kirin

Oh indeed, I forgot about trackpads… Then there’s only Ctrl and Ctrl+Shift with click that can help.
Pressing the wheel was a bit inconvenient at first, but I sort of got used to it. But I don’t autoscroll with it.

        • gekitsu

middle click is a rather unreliable option in general, isnt it?

trackpads usually dont have it, wacom pens dont have it, simpler mice dont have it, and of all people with a third mouse button, a number might have mapped it to something more useful.

        • ryofurue

“Isn’t middle click more convenient?”—Thanks for the suggestion. I don’t disagree that it’s somewhat more convenient for that particular purpose (open a link in a different tab). But, the beauty of comprehensive gestures is that most common navigation actions can be done with them. For example, the drag-down-and-up gesture to open a link in background mentioned above by Operalino. In contrast, relying on mouse buttons is less versatile than gestures.

By the way, another advantage of O12’s gestures is that they are copied by Firefox extension writers so that you can use the same gestures on Firefox, too. (That’s why I’ve stopped using Opera and moved to Firefox, at least for now.) The Chrome gesture extensions are out because they don’t always work (by design).

      • Vux777

        Drag N Go

it’s not native feature but works fine

        • Operalino

Is not what we are (at least I am) looking for. “Your” plugin is only for performing searches, but we are looking for a gesture to modify the behavior with clicking on links.

@ryofurue: Doesn’t left-click-drag-down-release gesture the same as the old right-click-drag-down-release gesture?!

          • ryofurue

“Doesn’t left-click-drag-down-release gesture the same as the old right-click-drag-down-release gesture?!”—I think there is some misunderstanding? I’ve just tried left-click-drag-down-release on Opera 20 on Mac, but the “gesture” didn’t do anything. What is it supposed to do?

          • Vux777

It is not only for searches. If you drag link it will open it in background tab.
and that is exactly what ryofurue and you where asking.

    • Operalino

I don’t know, why I didn’t have a look for it before, but I found an extension which fits my needs.
      https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/smooth-gestures/lfkgmnnajiljnolcgolmmgnecgldgeld/related

You need this extension to make it work of course:
      https://addons.opera.com/de/extensions/details/download-chrome-extension-9/?display=en

And have to disable the mousegestures of Opera. I didn’t test it for a long time, but it seems to work well 🙂

Now I only wait for private tabs (not only private windows) and the ability to open downloads without permanently saving them and I’m ready to change finally 😀

      • Vux777

You’ll probably find out soon but still…
all mouse gesture extensions sucks in Opera (and probably in chrome too). They fight with context menu popup, if you switch tab after gesture, many of them “stay in gesture state” eg. trail is still on and waiting to finish gesture, they don’t work in internal pages (Speed Dial!!)… too many problems with them (as extension, when native they are great)

and btw. Smooth gesture is adware, it will inject ads into page..

        • Operalino

I already switched to Pig Toolbox after reading all the “stuff” about Smooth gesture. I found it here: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/pig-toolbox-super-gesture/oiplkfaidhjklglajdpfehoagkmlcakh. Looks… bad, but till now it works very well. And it has a working option (which I DON’T use) for use at internal sites. It works.

I only have it till yesterday, so I hope I’ll not find the “sucking” elements 🙂 Till now I only noticed a small lag: after loading a side I have to wait a short time (~1 second) till the gesture work.

And: it also has the old Opera 12 feature to show me what the gesture I performed will do. Not in the perfect way as Opera 12 had it but it’s there 🙂

          • Vux777

sadly, all the cool features in pig toolbox don’t work (in my case at least)…

          • Operalino

This is strange. As your screenshot indicates, you’re using Windows. For me it’s working in Operas latest Dev and Next build with windows 8.1 64bit.

But anyway: doing some quick investigation in that case showed it would be a good decision to find an other solution for this nice plugin as it uses an outdated API, which will be removed till the end of the year 🙁

            http://iblogbox.com/pig/alert.php

Hopefully Opera will find the time to extend its native gesture support…

    • Operalino

I don’t know, why I didn’t have a look for it before, but I found an extension which fits my needs.
      https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/smooth-gestures/lfkgmnnajiljnolcgolmmgnecgldgeld/related

You need this extension to make it work of course:
      https://addons.opera.com/de/extensions/details/download-chrome-extension-9/?display=en

And have to disable the mousegestures of Opera. I didn’t test it for a long time, but it seems to work well 🙂

Now I only wait for private tabs (not only private windows) and the ability to open downloads without permanently saving them and I’m ready to change finally 😀

    • Leonardo Gomes

Opened for 5+ minutes and no crash so far.

      • 13.beta2

        ok, let’s drill-down my environment:

        – win xp sp3 x32
        – no anti-virus software

        – opera latest dev build, clean install js+flash are enabled, gpu acceleration is enabled

        • Leonardo Gomes

Win 8.1 here. Also lastest Developer build but no clean install.

          • Guest

confirm. no issues under win 8

  • taneli

I would appreciate if the auto-update could be turned off, i didn’t want to install this latest build seeing that it has so many bugs, but i accidentally closed my browser and now it updated it upon restarting. Now youtube videos won’t play at all that are longer than 30 minutes and i’ve watched the video before (so that it tries to continue from last position where i left the video before closing it).

Need to go to youtube settings and clear my viewing history after every video now, rather annoying.

While at it, could we get the page title to be shown at the top bar, next to the Opera button?

    • Nekomajin42

Perfect reason to create “remember me” and “turn off” auto-update options.

      • Not perfect reason. User can use Stable and to an extent Next.

        • Nekomajin42

Those also can be buggy. It happened not once in the history, that stable versions came out with serious bugs, and those were found immediately after update. The stable stream is really stable now, but flaws happen sometimes.
And you can’t say it’s a big work to add a confirm box on page load, when the browser looks for updates.

          • None of what you said justifies it.
The Stable stream has a purpose to exist, common.

          • Nekomajin42

I don’t think you get what I’m talking about.

          • Leonardo Gomes

I guess the point is: people who follow the Developer Stream really don’t care (or should not care) that much about bugs, and also they know how to revert back to and old build if necessary.

          • Nekomajin42

No, the point is some people like to have control over their resources. Bandwidth and data amount over the network are resources, moreover, they are quite different, depending on where you live and what technology you use.
And this thread has one very legit reason against the current method. And yes, this reason applies to the Dev and Next streams mostly, but this is just one reason among others.

I really don’t see why this debate at all. The Firefox way is perfect in this case.

          • Leonardo Gomes

            Ok, i understand your point.

However, i think that an option to disable autoupdate, if added, should be listed as one for “power uses” so, in theory, only users that really know what they are doing would mess with this setting.

          • Nekomajin42

Yes, it has to be an advanced option.

    • Vux777

add “–disable-update” to opera shortcut (without quotes)

      • taneli

        Wow, thank you 🙂

  • flashmozzg

Can you import your last opera 12 session into this one? Does it remember tabs position like old Opera (chrome doesn’t), so if you restore tab it would go exactly there it was. Can you save sessions? Can you use Ctrl+z to restore last closed tab? Will there be tab grouping (not essential, but sometimes useful).

    • Leonardo Gomes

“Does it remember tabs position like old Opera (chrome doesn’t), so if you restore tab it would go exactly there it was.”

It seems that tab position is remembered.

      “Can you save sessions?”

You can save ot as a SD group/folder

  • ANTI GOOGLI

Hi ,I tried sync but my passwords are not available , it is not implemented yet?

    • Leonardo Gomes

Nope. Only Speed Dials, Stash and custom searches are synced atm.

      • ANTI GOOGLI

        Thanks for response

  • Maggus

Any chance to get a better downloadmanager? I didn’t want to store some pics or torrent files, I only want to open this files! Like Opera 12 or Firefox can do!

      • Maggus

Sorry but this didn’t work for me!

        • What exactly didn’t work?

          • Maggus

What do you want to know? I installed it, try to download something and download starts like no extensions is installed!

          • Maggus

ok, this addon works only with V20 and not with the Stable and only with contextmenu… 🙁

          • Where else would you expect it to work other than the context menu?

          • Maggus

Try Opera 12 or Firefox… This is how I wish me this feature! But thanks for your help 🙂

  • IllusionMH

    Can’t find in comments.
Is it possible to remove Speed dial, Discover and Stash from O menu?

    • Leonardo Gomes

      I don’t think so.

      • IllusionMH

Only occupies place and makes harder to get to bottom menu elements. Same can be easily accessed from speeddial.
or we will be able to remove them from speedsial? 😀

        • Leonardo Gomes

          Don’t know.

  • hi Opera Team.

can you release Opera Dev with BitTorrent Sync also? or with another by-torrent way? my provider cashes Opera installer and does it wrong, so I can’t download it from your server anyway. netinstaller can’t do it also.

    thank you.

    • Leonardo Gomes

And can’t you download it even from http://get.opera.com/ftp/pub/opera-developer/ ?

      • yes, I can’t. I have no response for bytes 181040-36159055/36159056 of any new Opera installer file. my provider (which is one of three biggest in Russia) makes evil things with his deep packet inspection and/or caching popular files in wrong way or something.

  • BUG detected.

I have a lot of Stash. I found that I can see only 50 items in it. If I delete some of them I can see other items.

Expand amount of items in Stash up to unlim 🙂

    • x a

Did you notice the downward pointing angle in a circle (or on a disc, rather) close to the left window border in the middle of the frame?

That arrow lets you turn pages on stash to navigate all its content.

But it happend a few times that a post of me wasn’t really submitted even it was shown to me after hitting “Post as …”. I noticed it a day later that it wasn’t really submitted but only shown to me for the time till reloading the page.]

        • 🙂

        • nanana2

My posts sometimes disappear randomly. BTW, I hate Disqus too…:-(

      • Oh, my screen is tooo wide… Yes, my mistake, I didn’t see this arrow 🙁

        • We will consider our pagination approach. It is clear it can be confusing. It was done for performance reasons (more than 50 high-resolution images can be a problem for many).

          • Dmitry Kirin

Could you also consider an option to drop/not keep the site thumbnail images completely? As for me, they are totally useless. For example, I don’t open Stash much, preferring to have its contents shown in search results only. My stash.db is already 200MB, with 600 items. It’s not a big problem in itself, but, when I run Sync, sites are retrieved again to rebuild the thumbnails, and that’s a waste of network traffic.

          • Vux777

I would also like to kick site previews out…just a list i good enough
but I guess it’s not cool enough for common (target) users ๏̯̃๏

Is not working well with MEGA !!! First, there are bugs in site with html and css, you want to click one button, but it clicks other.
    http://imageshack.com/a/img17/8590/zze.gif

Second, the function “Download as ZIP” from first use never works at all. Files and folders are missing from the archive. You have to delete downloaded file and to try again and maybe from second and third time you can get whole archive. With chrome and firefox there is no problem.

    • Dmitry Kirin

Do you have HiDPI on? It causes such problems with this build indeed. Try turning it off.

      • beBoss

I have no idea where is the problem, the option is set to default. Which problem should be fixed by disabling this option?

        • Dmitry Kirin
          • beBoss

For the first problem, disabling the HiDPI is enough.

          • Leonardo Gomes

Strange that i have dpi set do 125% here and i’m not facing the first problem you’ve listed.

        • Leonardo Gomes

Set your computer dpi to 100% and check if the first problem is solved.

        • beBoss

Actually enabling or disabling this options doesn’t fix this bug!

  • I don’t understand the need for Speed Dial, Discover and Stash in the main menu…

There’s an irremovable toolbar button to access the Speed Dial + a new tab button already, which will make the exact same thing in fewer clicks / mouse movement. Discover and Stash can also be accessed currently in Stable in the same number of steps (Opera 19’s click Speed Dial -> click = Opera 20’s click menu -> click with only sightly less hassle via the menu since you can click, drag and drop the mouse button above Discover or Stash).

With Opera 15 you uncluttered the UI and menus significantly and this is a step back into clutter and redundancy in the interface IMO.

  • Ice007

When have the themes at last an effect in the tab bar? A speed dial wallpaper is not a theme! I can not see this disgusting “toilets blue” anymore. At least if you can not combine the color with the themes, then implement a choice for the tab bar color, so the user can adjust the color to the theme. That should be possible?! From “somewhere” the bar gets the color information. Then it should also be customizable?
Btw I already asked for this about 6th month ago! I’m not a programmer, but if even a few “hobby developers” can offer colors in their extensions, then you Opera experts should actually easily be able to.

    • Leonardo Gomes

They said a while ago that they were working on something similar to the (old Opera) skins. I don’t know what is the status of it today.

      • Emanuele

for what I can recall, at best they will support only the “personas” skins, not the full skinning system… correct me if I’m mistaking please

        PS
and however I really hope that this is a very very low priority task in the ToDo list

  • Dmitry Kirin

I wonder if anyone else has encountered the issue with audio playback:

When a Flash video (e.g. YouTube) is played in the background and I listen to it while viewing RSS feeds in an external client (Outlook), audio is a bit stuttering when some web content referenced by the RSS items is being retrieved. RSS items are like mail messages, already downloaded, with references to external web resources (images in blog posts). The issue affects media with even a low bitrate, 240–480 kbit/s. My internet bandwidth is 5 Mbit/s, pretty enough for download without breaking the playback. Anyway, Flash video download is cached, its cache never drains out during the playback.

Maybe it’s a performance issue, I don’t know. I tried to force a higher priority on the Opera process. It does not help, as Chromium is constantly resetting the priority to what it believes to be better. When the playback is not in the active tab and Opera is minimised, the playback thread may be dropped to low priority. If I set Outlook’s priority to lowest, the problem disappears or occurs rarely.

Any ideas how to correct this? Are there any flags that can help? Or maybe it’s not a performance issue at all, but something else?

I couldn’t find any “report bug” button in opera developer version, so I decided to write here. I have the windows task bar on the left side of my screen and auto hide on. When I run opera 20 my task bar disappears, and can’t “slide it out” http://imageshack.com/a/img62/654/fkkf.png

Only I have problem with detaching Dev Tools? Looks like Detach/Attach button is missing in this build.

    Win 8.1 x64
Also can’t attach on Win7 SP1 x64 (window was detached before update)

Is there any shortcut or function to detach it without that button?

Any chances to get Dev Tools updates independently from browser (like Dragonfly had)? Because Opera builds have bugs in Dev Tools that were fixed before Opera Dev release.

Try importing bookmarks on Opera 20 / Mac… Useless browser because a simple function is missing…

  • derekcolman

I used Opera for about 3 months as my second browser with no problems except just getting used to how it worked. Then I received notification of an update, which I duly downloaded. Since then I am unable to set my own chosen homepage, which is the AOL/Compaq one. No matter how many times I set it, it only stays for the next 2 or 3 times I open Opera, then it reverts to the default settings. Also, although Opera is not my default browser it sometimes hijacks downloads.
